So<strong>de</strong>rsmith asking for help with their little problem.<br />
Encounter One — A small band of evil humanoids are<br />
encountered on the road to So<strong>de</strong>rsmith. Possibility mistaken for<br />
the Witch’s minions they ambush the party.<br />
Encounter Two — Arriving at So<strong>de</strong>rsmith the party encounters a<br />
mob attacking the giant child. The child <strong>de</strong>als non-lethal damage<br />
to Llion Frey and escapes.<br />
Encounter Three — The Mayor of So<strong>de</strong>rsmith Cuthwin<br />
Trevdynson explains the problem from his point of view. The<br />
Party may also speak to the townspeople to get clues on which si<strong>de</strong><br />
they wish to take.<br />
Path A: The adventures take the si<strong>de</strong> of Fiona. They choose to<br />
<strong>de</strong>fend the old woman and the giant child against the townspeople<br />
and another group of adventurers is contacted to kill them.<br />
Encounter Four A — The party make their way to Fiona’s<br />
dwelling and learn of who she really is. She tells her story and a<br />
mob of towns people show up to harass her. The party then must<br />
<strong>de</strong>al with the angry mob of commoners.<br />
Encounter Five A — The mob has ma<strong>de</strong> its way back to town and<br />
informed the mayor of the party’s siding with Fiona. The Mayor<br />
sends his group of hired adventures to <strong>de</strong>al with the problem. The<br />
second party attacks Fiona’s home in the middle of the night. The<br />
party must <strong>de</strong>al with this group of would be heroes.<br />
Encounter Six A — The party make their way back to So<strong>de</strong>rmith<br />
and must <strong>de</strong>al with the corrupt mayor. He has already fled but a<br />
few Gran March sol<strong>de</strong>rs have come to his aid. After battling the<br />
Gran March Sol<strong>de</strong>rs (assuming they survive) the party discovers<br />
papers indicating the Major was planning on turning over the<br />
town to the annexed Gran March territories.<br />
Path B: The party takes the si<strong>de</strong> of the Mayor of So<strong>de</strong>rsmith and<br />
leave with an aid to kill the giant and “Evil Witch.”<br />
Encounter Four B — Fiona, <strong>de</strong>sperate to save her giant child, uses<br />
scrolls of monster summoning to challenge the party on the road<br />
to her dwelling. After encountering the good aligned summoned<br />
monsters the party has the opportunity to change to path A.<br />
Encounter Five B — The adolescent Giant child has <strong>de</strong>ci<strong>de</strong>d to<br />
challenge the party outsi<strong>de</strong> of Fiona’s home. Using her few buff<br />
spells Fiona prays for the child’s victory.<br />
Encounter Six B — With her child <strong>de</strong>ad Fiona has nothing to live<br />
for. She attacks the party with the few combat spells she has<br />
prepared. Quickly burning through her combat spells she is<br />
whisked away from <strong>de</strong>ath by a mysterious teleport spell ending<br />
combat.<br />
PREPARATION FOR PLAY<br />
Before play begins, have the players roll:<br />
• A Spot check<br />
• A Listen Check<br />
• A Sense Motive Check<br />
Take note of any meta-organizations of which the PCs may be<br />
members or have been members. Of particular note in this module<br />
are:<br />
• Old Lore Bards<br />
• Former/Current members of the Army of Liberation<br />
• Former/Current members of the Giant Slayers<br />
INTRODUCTION<br />
The party begins the adventure in the Grand Duchy of Geoff,<br />
or Gyruff as the Flan call it. It is the early summer of CY 599. It is<br />
not important where in Gyruff the PCs are, as they will receive<br />
the letter as long as they are someplace a letter could feasibly be<br />
received. The letter is <strong>de</strong>livered by a messenger service known<br />
locally as Fleet of Foot.<br />
<strong>Le</strong>t each of the players see Players' Hand Out # 1 (There are three<br />
versions of this letter <strong>de</strong>pending on the PCs' backgrounds. See<br />
Appendix VI). Once they have done so and agreed to travel to<br />
Hochoch, read the following:<br />
Finding yourself in Hochoch you soon find yourself standing<br />
outsi<strong>de</strong> the city stables as instructed by the letter. The early morning<br />
sun gleams off the armor worn by a number of Gran March soldiers<br />
as they ready their horses and slowly ri<strong>de</strong> away. Around you are a<br />
number ofother adventurers seemingly waiting like yourself.<br />
At this point allow the PCs to introduce themselves. Encourage<br />
