Interactive Session with<br />

<strong>American</strong> Center Director Ms. Grimes<br />

The Gujarat branch organized an interactive meeting<br />

with Ms. Annie Grimes, Director of <strong>American</strong> Center,<br />

Mumbai, for members on 8 September, 2010 at Lemon<br />

Tree Hotel, Ahmedabad. She was in the city on the<br />

occasion to mark the 6th anniversary celebrations of The<br />

<strong>American</strong> Corner.<br />

Ms. Grimes said she was impressed with the<br />

entrepreneurial skills of the Gujarati community and<br />

foresaw a great potential in developing close ties<br />

between the United States and Gujarat in various fields,<br />

including science and technology, education, healthcare<br />

and renewable energy. She also talked about the<br />

forthcoming visit of the US President Barack Obama to<br />

India in November and its importance.<br />

Ms. Grimes came up with the idea of developing video<br />

conferencing between the business communities of India<br />

and the US for giving boost to <strong>Indo</strong>-US bilateral trade and<br />

commerce.<br />

She invited questions related to business and commerce<br />

from the members present at the meeting, which ended<br />

with the planning of a joint programme in future between<br />

the <strong>American</strong> Center and the IACC- Gujarat Branch.<br />

At the outset the members were informed about the vast<br />

experience that Ms. Grimes possessed. She joined the US<br />

Ms. Annie Grimes, Director, <strong>American</strong> Center, Mumbai,<br />

replying to questions from IACC, Gujarat members.<br />

Foreign Service in 1990 and has since served in<br />

Antananarivo, Madagascar (1991-1994), Surabaya,<br />

<strong>Indo</strong>nesia (1995-1997), Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso<br />

(1997-2000), and Mumbai, India (2000-2005),<br />

Washington, DC, <strong>Of</strong>fice of Public Diplomacy, Bureau of<br />

East Asian and Pacific Affairs (2005-2007); and Jakarta,<br />

<strong>Indo</strong>nesia (2007-2010). She joined the Public Affairs<br />

Section of the U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai, as the<br />

Public Affairs <strong>Of</strong>ficer in August 2010. Ms. Grimes is<br />

proficient in are French and <strong>Indo</strong>nesian languages,<br />

besides English.<br />

A programme on “Emerging Techniques in Project S. Ramanathan, Management Consultant, Param<br />

Management” was organized by the Tamil Nadu branch Consulting spoke on the topic of Risk Management in<br />

on 4 June 2010. The programme was aimed at Projects and Modern Techniques in Project Progress<br />

understanding the latest techniques used for effective Measurement.<br />
