Child Development and family support services available for pregnant women and families of children<br />

age birth - 5 who are low income and in East County outside Portland Public Schools. Services include<br />

Head Start and Early Head Start which provides a comprehensive program including health screenings,<br />

child and parent activities, transportation, family style meals, opportunities <strong>to</strong> volunteer, and<br />

parent involvement activities. Part day and full day services with some programs available year-round.<br />

Early Head Start Home-Based Program enrolls children who are birth <strong>to</strong> three and pregnant moms<br />

in a home-based program. Home based program involves weekly home visits <strong>to</strong> families, socialization<br />

days, and a variety of parent groups.<br />

Part Day/Year Head Start offers classes 4 days per week as well as home visits for families of<br />

preschoolers (ages 3-5) in locations throughout mid and east Multnomah county. Transportation is<br />

offered <strong>to</strong> many locations.<br />

Migrant Education Preschool/Head Start provides preschool and home visit services for migrant<br />

eligible families. All services provided in Spanish.<br />

<strong>Community</strong> Placements is a full day/full year Head Start Program. Head Start partners with child<br />

care centers. Children attend one of our partner child care sites. A Family Educa<strong>to</strong>r works with the<br />

family, the child and the child care provider <strong>to</strong> coordinate support services. Staff work closely with the<br />

providers <strong>to</strong> ensure they are meeting Head Start requirements, by working in the classroom approximately<br />

15 hours per week <strong>to</strong> do learning activities with children, bringing curriculum materials and<br />

providing training. Head Start child must be 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1st and family<br />

must be working or receiving childcare assistance through DHS and need full time child care.<br />

Full Year provides child care for eligible families. Early Head Start/Head Start child must be 18 months<br />

<strong>to</strong> 5 years old and family must be working or receiving childcare assistance through DHS and need full<br />

time child care.<br />

Student Program Full Day Early Head Start/Head Start for student parents, must be attending MHCC<br />

full time (such as GED, ESL, or 9 credits, preference is given <strong>to</strong> students taking 12 or more credits).<br />

Early Head Start/Head Start child must be 6 months <strong>to</strong> 5 years old. Located at the Early Childhood<br />

Center on the MHCC campus, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.<br />
