BOOK REVIW
Praising the unsung
heroes
'deeply moved by
handlers' stories of
canine bravery'
Retired national newspaper journalist,
Edward Vale is writing a book about the
courage of police dogs, a book I believe
long overdue.
He tells me that he is astonished and
deeply moved by handlers' stories of
canine bravery, not to mention the heroism
of the handlers themselves.
cd Will not divulge the title, but says that
the book points up lawbreakers who
believe they can buck the odds, the yobs
who put the boot in or lash out with iron
bars, and the gun and machete ghouls
whose evil is boundless, who care not a
jot about the damage their ferocity wreaks.
But they reckon without a police dog's
courage and his handier's devotion to
duty.
Of necessity, many of his stories are
most touching. To relieve this and to
show another side to police dog work, he
plans a final chapter on lighter moments
- bitten Bobbies' bums and the like - any
incident that raises a smile.
If you have such a tale, send it or get in
touch with me and I will arrange for the
contact to be passed on. Fine detail is not
needed.
Now come on you budding authors,
here is a chance to get your stories down
in print with a professional - stories from
a book which I know we will get the
chance to star in our magazine.
