Student Music Organizations
A student chapter of Music Educator's National Conference (MENC) is active
within the Casper College Music Department. Although intended primarily for students
pursuing a career in music education, the organization is open to all interested students.
For a minimal dues payment, members receive the Music Educators Journal, and most
benefits accorded full members. Applications for membership are accepted early in the
fall semester. The faculty sponsor is Jennifer Cowell.
The MENC chapter hosts several Department events, including a Casper College
booth at the All-State Music Convention, and a booth at the Casper College Kinser Jazz
Festival. Fundraising activities allow the chapter to further their music education by
attending the MENC national convention, major concerts or musical events, often out of
state.

Music Student Advisory Council
Student input into department curricula, operations, and activities is vital.
Therefore, the Music Student Advisory Council was organized in 2005 with the goal to
provide a forum for student input. The Council is organized as follows:
• 1 elected member of the freshman music major class
• 1 elected member of the sophomore music major class
• The Collegiate Chorale President
• The Concert Band Librarian
• 1 elected member of the Chamber Orchestra
• 1 elected member of the jazz studies program
• The MENC Student Chapter President
The Council elects a president form its membership, who presides over meetings.
It is appropriate and desirable to include at least one non-music major on the Council.
The Council does not collect dues, nor does it engage in fund raising activities. The
Program Director of the music department monitors the meetings, and may take
suggestions anonymously to the appropriate faculty or administration.
