Personal Technology Usage Students are required to eliminate distracting noises such as cell phones, and other electronic devices in the classroom and at all music events. Instructors may have additional requirements concerning the use of personal technology during classes. Please consult the syllabus for specific technology requirements. Concert Grand Piano Policies The Casper College Foundation purchased a new Yamaha Concert Grand Piano in 2000. Use of this instrument for general practicing is prohibited. Permission to play the instrument for preparation of Convocation or other performances is granted only by the piano faculty. The following policies are strictly enforced: • the cover always should be on the instrument unless it is in use • the cover should never be placed on the floor • do not use any furniture polish on the instrument • do not place anything on the instrument--even with the cover on. • avoid spiral-bound books and notebooks on the music rack. If this is not possible, use the red key cover to cushion the music on the rack. • avoid jewelry (like a steel watchband for example) that would mar the key cover and rack • move the bench out of the way before moving the piano • do not use a pencil eraser when the music is on the rack; residue should not be allowed to fall into the action Moving the instrument • the piano should be moved to and from behind stage with the cover on • it is preferable that two people move the piano • the two lockable casters should be locked into position at all times when the instrument is not being moved Use of the instrument • this instrument is not for general practicing • permission must be obtained from the piano faculty to use the piano 27
Computer Facilities Casper College provides numerous computing facilities for its students. Open labs contain networked personal computers, printers, and other computer equipment that are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. All college computing equipment is restricted to instructional use relating to course of study only. Computer lab platforms include Macintosh and Windows and can be found in the following locations: Windows XP (complete with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software) AD 6 Administration Building KT 152 Krampert Theater LI Main Floor, Goodstein Foundation Library PS 327 Wold Physical Science Center Macintosh laboratory, located in AD 7 (Administration Building) is available to music students when classes are not in session. Software includes state-of-the-art music publishing, improvisation tools, word-processing, practice in music fundamentals, and other computer-assisted instructional software. Specific music software includes: Auralia, Band in a Box, Finale, and Practica Musica. Operating hours are posted on the door of each lab, or you may locate the hours on the Casper College web site at the following URL and clicking on the Computer Labs tab. http://www.caspercollege.edu/doit/index.html Lab assistants are available in AD 6, AD 7 and LI on a limited basis. Casper College offers several distant education classes via the Internet or Telecourse. For further information, call (307) 268-3882. Music Department office computers located in FA 303 are strictly for office use only and are not available to students. Bailey, Morad, and Wheeler residents can connect to the Internet provided by Bresnan Communications. Wireless Internet access is available in the Aley Fine Arts Center and many other locations on campus. For further information about the use of the college network or campus computer labs, consult the current Casper College Student Catalog or call the Help Desk at 268-3648. Photocopying Materials The Music Department Xerox machine is for Department business use only. Photocopying by students is not permitted. Department personnel should comply with current copyright laws and not reproduce copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder. 28
