The stream reach from River Mile 135 to 172 is the steepest reach (2 foot/mile). The upstream reach from River Mile 172 to Lake Shelbyville has a grade of 1 foot/mile. CARLYLE LAKE WATERSHED GOALS The Carlyle Lake Watershed Planning Committee worked together to produce a list of goals for the watershed area. ‣ Protect our Natural Resources ‣ Improve the Environment ‣ Control Siltation of Carlyle Lake ‣ Enhancing Natural Resources ‣ Improve the water quality and quantity through management of streams within the watershed ‣ Minimize flooding ‣ Promote good land use ‣ Partner with water use groups, like Gateway Water Distribution ‣ Maintain voluntary and cooperative solutions – do not mandate solutions ‣ Improve working relationship with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies ‣ Promote wildlife habitat 6
CARLYLE LAKE PLANNING COMMITTEE The Carlyle Lake Planning Committee consists of twenty-eight planning members. The Soil and Water Conservation Districts within the six-county watershed area chose these members. The Planning Committee members are representatives of the villages and municipalities, the SWCD’s, the Mid-Kaskaskia River Basin Coalition, Drainage Districts, Farm Bureau, Environmental groups, farmers, politicians, the business element and the Carlyle Lake Association. A majority of the committee members represent multiple groups.
