furniture. The cleaving knife is usually 12cm l<strong>on</strong>g, 3cm wide, with the back <strong>of</strong> the<br />
blade about O. 5cm in thickness. The outside <strong>of</strong> the knife is the edge, which is not<br />
necessarily sharp, with an ir<strong>on</strong> hilt at the end. The shape <strong>of</strong> bamboo chisel is similar<br />
to woodworker's chisel but seems light and handy (Figure 3. 22) .<br />
3.3. 1. 8 Round gouge and square gouge<br />
Round gouge and square gouge are tools for cutting holes. The round gouge is resp<strong>on</strong>sible<br />
for cutting round holes, which are used for assembling bamboo board.<br />
While square gouge is for cutting square holes, with different size <strong>of</strong> 3mm, 6mm,<br />
10 mm , etc. (Figure 3. 23) .<br />

3.3. 1. 9 Handsaw<br />
Handsaw is specially designed for sawing <strong>of</strong>f bamboo node or strips and sawing out<br />
kerfs <strong>of</strong> different depths <strong>on</strong> the bamboo node. It is a usual tool in the process <strong>of</strong><br />
making bamboo furniture. According to the requirement <strong>of</strong> the bamboo furniture,<br />
the most frequently used types <strong>of</strong> saw are frame saw and steel saw. With thinner<br />
saw blade, smaller and denser saw tooth, the steel saw seems more refined and<br />
handy than the frame saw (Figure 3. 24) .<br />

3.3. 1. 10 Saw blade<br />
Saw blade is a special tool for pinning the bamboo board. Saw blade is short, inserting<br />
tightly into an ir<strong>on</strong> clip, with wooden hilt attached to it. While using, hold the
