Sue Swanson (8yrs)
Susan Swanson has contributed to Woodstock in many ways, and the students
and school have benefited because of her dedication and love. She was hired
in 2003 as the School Librarian and Head of the Learning Resources Center. In
her time at Woodstock, she ruled over the stacks, shushing seniors and pushing
all students and staff towards academic excellence. She demanded silence in
the library but spoke loudly in meetings and assemblies—truly a force to be
reckoned with. She dealt in three areas as Librarian—administration, collection
management, and instruction/outreach.
Sue contributed to the school in many more ways: she was the staff and advisor
and a chaperone for the Model United Nations programs between 2004 and 2006
and again between 2009 and 2011 (she coordinated the program from 2006 to
2009). Plus, she was the homeroom teacher of the class of 2010. Susan will be
missed, not just for
her work in the library
but also for
her love for Woodstock
School.
Ron Swanson

Few people have
contributed as
much to Woodstock
over the past eight
years as Ronald
Swanson has. He
arrived in 2003 as
an accompanying
spouse, here with
his wife Susan, who was hired as School Librarian. According to her, “We
came because I had a job, and we stayed because he had one.” In fact, he had
two primary roles: for three years, he was an Administrative Assistant in ICT,
and for the past five years, he has been the Registrar. His ICT accomplishments
include keeping departmental data and records and training himself in HTML
so that he could be the webmaster for WS Wire. Many of the services available
on the wire – such as the announcements system and study hall signups – are
there because Ronald debugged and implemented them. In 2006, Ronald moved
to the Registrar’s office and his work has included: Adding the transcript back
page for student activities and external exam results; implementing the demerit
system for Saturday Morning Detention; consolidating and organizing old student
files, beginning the systematic computerized cataloging of old student files;
assuming the duties of Cambridge Examination Officer; organizing and summarizing
external examination results for PSAT, SAT, IGCSE, and AP exams;
helping to implement and maintain the Naviance software system for managing
American college applications; and assuming the role of scheduler for Senior
School courses.
Finally, he helped new administrators in countless ways, providing detailed
advice, usually with a touch of humor and always with humility and kindness.
His dedication to Woodstock is unsurpassed, and any teacher who has turned
in late grades or comments at the end of a marking period knows that Ronald
was always willing to work many hours into the night and on weekends to make
sure the job was done.
