COLLEGE NOTICES QLD Health School Dental Service Mobile Van is here! The van will be here until all eligible students from Prep to Year 10 are seen. Consent forms will be sent home with your child as each class is systematically processed. Handing in an assignment? Bring your paper copy to Student Reception where it will be date stamped and recorded as being received. Please ensure that you have your name and class and the subject teacher’s name written clearly on the cover sheet. Assignments will not be received unless this is completed. ICE PACKS Students who borrow ice packs through Student Reception/Sick Bay need to return them by the end of the day. Please remember to do this ... Thank you. DONATIONS NEEDED FOR SOUP KITCHEN Once again students will be busy in our kitchen on Thursdays preparing soups to donate to the local Soup Kitchen. If any families or businesses would like to donate fresh produce or tinned vegetables, beans or pasta, it would be sincerely appreciated. Caring for our needy is a practical way that students can learn the importance of community work and support. Class Lists for 2013 It is important for the College to have a transparent process for compiling class lists for each new year. The compilation of class lists is not a quick or easy exercise and much time, thought and prayer is put into the process. It is understandable that families have a lot invested in which class they prefer. The College acknowledges that parents know their children best, in non‐school contexts, and respect the insights parents may have in relation to placement of their children. This procedure gives an opportunity for parents to share these insights with the College so that they may be considered when classes are formed. PROCEDURE A. Parents are notified via the newsletter in Term 4 that class lists are being compiled. If parents desire to have input into the compilation process, they may do so in writing to the Head of College, no later than Week 7 of Term 4. B. Current teachers of students advise Head of College about: 1. general academic ability 2. behavioural patterns 3. social groupings C. EdZone (Education Support Unit) provides input to Head of College D. The strengths and input of the potential next year’s teachers are considered E. The Head of College, in consultation with staff, compiles class lists whilst giving full consideration to class numbers, gender balance, behavioural demands, parent insights, general ability, social needs, timetabling and the like. F. Lists are displayed at the College the workday before Term 1 begins. G. The lists as published are final. H. The Principal is the only person in the College who may, in exceptional circumstances, alter the class allocations after lists are published. DEADLINE FOR NOTIFICATION ‐ FRIDAY 23 NOVEMBER Fiji Mission Students have had the most incredible experience here are some of their comments: Kira Abell (pictured left) Hosting the kids klub and youth group at CCCC. Meeting lots of new people at CCCC and in the village. They made me feel welcome and had a good birthday. Missing the village now we are at the resort. I can survive without Internet and parents, have fun no matter where I am. Challenge having no hot water – it was like snow coming out of the shower Jessica Brady Being at the village they are always happy and make you feel welcome they don’t have that much and they are so much happier than us all the time and find happiness in the smallest things. I learnt just to be patient and not to judge people. Even though it was hard to be without all the things I have at home is still worthwhile to see al the people and talk to them. Andrew Chapman I decided to come back as I missed out a lot last time as I was sick. I would love to come back again. Loved the whole trip, a part from getting sick. So happy and joyful towards everyone they follow you around and enjoy talking about what they do and their culture and beliefs. News 14
