different States. Taking initiatives, the Ministry offered to assist the willing States
in formulation of <strong>Detailed</strong> <strong>Project</strong> <strong>Report</strong>s (DPR) for the setting up of Integrated
Horticultural Markets and subsequently in tying up of financing and
implementation of the project by different agencies in different States subject to
the condition of amendments in APMC act.
Different States requested the
Ministry to get prepared <strong>Detailed</strong> <strong>Project</strong> <strong>Report</strong>s for them. In view of this, the
National Institute of Agricultural Marketing was asked to prepare the said reports
for different markets in different States.
The Ministry decided to take up Rai Market of Haryana in the first phase and
NIAM was asked to complete the report by end of June, 2005.
Haryana has emerged as one of the forefront States in the Northern Region. It
has combined growth with equity and is ranked third against the States with a
minimum gap between rural and urban prosperity. In terms of per capita income it
is sixth in the country after Chandigarh, Delhi, Pondichery, Maharashtra and
Punjab. Amongst the top most industrialized states it ranks third largest in per
capita value addition in industries and is sixth in the roster of Industrial
Entrepreneurship Memoranda (IEMs). It ranks fourth as per the infrastructure
index developed by CMIE besides being one of the top agrarian states and
contributing substantially to the national pool of wheat, rice, coarse cereals and
pulses.
Haryana, bordering the National Capital from three sides, offers excellent location
to start any industry. It’s close proximity to major consuming market of the
country(Delhi) justifies the development of modern, systematic, professionally
