Communication<br />

Students, working in conjunction with<br />
faculty member, pursue independent<br />
study in a special facet of technical and<br />
professional communication. Students<br />
produce original, thought-provoking<br />
interpretive project or report to be submitted<br />
to department for faculty review<br />
and approval. Prerequisite: adviser’s<br />
approval.<br />
JW 702 Special Topics in Technical<br />
Communication<br />

Special topics course is offered from<br />
time to time by faculty members, visiting<br />
scholars and professionals. Special<br />
titles and prerequisites are announced<br />
prior to registration. May be repeated for<br />
credit. Prerequisite: JW 600 or instructor’s<br />

JW 703 Internship 0:0:3:12<br />
Full- or part-time placement as a technical<br />
and professional communication<br />
intern. Intense, practical work experience<br />
focusing on student’s area of specialization.<br />
Students work with a professional<br />
adviser within the sponsoring organization<br />
and a faculty adviser within the<br />
department. Weekly progress reports and<br />
term project required. Prerequisites:<br />
completion of four or more graduate<br />
courses in technical communication;<br />
approval of sponsoring organization and<br />
department.<br />
JW 704 Master’s Project 2 1 ⁄2:0:0:3<br />
Students work with faculty adviser to<br />
write and produce master’s project in<br />
technical communication. After project<br />
proposal is approved, students research<br />
and develop technical communication<br />
project in area of specialization.<br />
Prerequisites: completion of 27 units or<br />
more toward MS in Specialized<br />
Journalism and instructor’s permission.<br />
