ATHLETICS, INTRAMURALS AND RECREATION<br />
CLASSES/CLUB SPORTS<br />
Aerobics<br />
Basic aerobic steps and conditioning to<br />
music. Class consists of warm-up, stretching<br />
and low impact aerobics. Floor exercises<br />
focus on stomach, legs, hips and buttocks,<br />
strengthening exercises using hand weights.<br />
Bowling<br />
Recreational bowling club meets once a<br />
week at Maple Lanes in Brooklyn.<br />
Standings are kept and awards given at the<br />
end of the semester. Bowling tournaments<br />
are also available during the year.<br />
Martial Arts–Judo/Beginner<br />
and Advanced<br />
All aspects of Sport Judo from beginner to<br />
advanced. Lessons include conditioning,<br />
drills, mat work, standing techniques and<br />
contest rules. Class is offered for recreation<br />
and/or competition. Rank is given.<br />
Martial Arts– Tae Kwon Do /Beginner<br />
and Advanced<br />
Tae Kwon Do is taught as a traditional<br />
martial art. Lessons include patterns, basic<br />
striking, blocking and kicking techniques,<br />
calisthenics, light sparring, self-defense<br />
releases and throws. Class is offered for<br />
recreation and/or competition. Rank is<br />
given.<br />
Swimming<br />
Recreational swimming hours are offered<br />
at St. Francis College, 180 Remsen Street,<br />
Brooklyn, NY (about a 5 minute walk from<br />
the campus)<br />
Table Tennis<br />
Polytechnic offers both recreational hours<br />
and opportunities to get involved in intercollegiate<br />
competition. Recreational players<br />
can try-out for a place on the team.<br />
FACILITIES<br />
Gymnasium: NCAA-regulation gym,<br />
located on first floor of the Joseph J. and<br />
Violet J. Jacobs Building (JAB).<br />
Trainers Room: Located in the Lower<br />
Level of the Joseph J. and Violet J. Jacobs<br />
Building (JAB). Includes whirlpool, ice<br />
machine, hydroculator (hot packs) and<br />
ultra-sound and electrical stimulation<br />
machines. An athletic trainer is present at<br />
all home games and is on campus three days<br />
a week.<br />
Fitness Center: Located in the Lower<br />
Level of the Joseph J. and Violet J. Jacobs<br />
Building (JAB). Equipment includes treadmills,<br />
steppers, stationary bicycles, rowing<br />
machines, a heavy bag and a speed bag<br />
for cardiovascular work. Strength equipment<br />
includes both single and dual weight<br />
machines and a free weight area including<br />
barbells and dumbbells.<br />
Recreation Center: Located in the Lower<br />
Level of the JAB, includes billiards, ping<br />
pong, shuffle board, and air hockey.<br />
Athletic Fields: Polytechnic’s athletic fields<br />
for baseball, softball and soccer are located<br />
at Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway<br />
Recreation area off the Belt Parkway, Exit<br />
11 South.<br />
