Skills and Content
Students will work on the four language skills.
• Listening: understanding and interpreting the spoken language from
various sources on a variety of topics
• Reading: understanding and interpreting both non-literary and literary
written texts
• Speaking: communicating clearly, resourcefully and appropriately with
other speakers
• Writing: communicating ideas clearly, resourcefully and appropriately in
writing
At the same time, students will increase their language range, expand and
consolidate their vocabulary and increase their understanding of grammar.
The topics explored allow students to relate to the language work while
reflecting on the areas of interaction. Students also pursue the school’s goal
of intercultural awareness by becoming aware of the different countries in
which German is spoken.
Subject field trips and special projects, which are organized to make use of
the unique opportunity of studying German and the German culture in
Germany, supplement our courses.
Methodology
The department aims to follow a methodology which stresses:
• that language is used for communication
• learner-centered instruction
• that different students can learn in different ways
• variety
• authentic material
• creative material
• creative and open-ended activities to motivate and challenge a range of
abilities.
