Assessment
The following assessment criteria have been established by the IB for information technology
and design technology subjects in the Middle Years Programme. The final assessment
required for IB-validated grades and certification at the end of the MYP will be based on
these assessment criteria.

For each assessment criterion, a number of band descriptors, describing a range of
achievement levels, are defined. The lowest level of achievement is represented as
0. The criteria are equally weighted.
The descriptors concentrate on positive achievement, although for the lower levels
failure to achieve may be included in the description. The process by which a
student’s total level of achievement in terms of the assessment criteria is finally
converted to a single grade is published in the MYP Coordinator’s Handbook.
Assessment is an integral part of our teaching and learning and a continuing
process.
Various methods, both formative and summative, are used to determine to what
extent learning expectations have been met. Assessment criteria for the skills are
established in rubrics and students are assessed in the various aspects of the design
cycle. Two major projects in each section must be completed and assessed.
A finished project has 3 elements: product, process journal, document folder.
