Secure a career in refrigeration<br />
As a refrigeration technician or engineer you may find<br />
yourself working on an apartment building, on a ship<br />
or in a factory – every day and every job is different.<br />
The Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning will<br />
introduce you to the skills, knowledge and attributes<br />
that will lead to employment or training as a refrigeration<br />
engineer – a career with a whole range <strong>of</strong> options.<br />
This programme is designed to allow you to reach and<br />
be assessed for all Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 unit<br />
standards contained within the National Certificate in<br />
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Level 4).<br />
You’ll be ready to start work as a refrigeration technician<br />
or staircase into higher level programmes to become a<br />
qualified refrigeration engineer.<br />
Programme Summary<br />

• Core Electrical<br />
• Core Engineering<br />
• First Aid<br />
• Refrigeration<br />
• Welding.<br />
Further Training or Study<br />
National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning<br />
(Level 4)<br />
NZ Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical) (Level 6).<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:<br />
• Be physically capable <strong>of</strong> completing the practical<br />
aspects <strong>of</strong> the programme and<br />
• Have English language competence to undertake this<br />
programme which is taught and assessed in English.<br />
Any applicant whose first language is not English may<br />
be requested to provide evidence <strong>of</strong> an IELTS (Academic)<br />
band score <strong>of</strong> 5.5 with no band below 5.0 or equivalent.<br />
Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the<br />
attitudes and ability to work and study at the level required<br />
for the programme. The above attributes may be assessed<br />
through an interview or on the application form as deemed<br />
appropriate by the School <strong>of</strong> Mechanical <strong>Trades</strong>.<br />
Students who have attained the age <strong>of</strong> 20 years and do not<br />
hold the minimum entry requirements for a programme will<br />
be eligible to be enrolled as a student where their previous<br />
educational, work or life experience indicates they have a<br />
reasonable likelihood <strong>of</strong> success. Students who have not<br />
attained the age <strong>of</strong> 20 years and do not hold the required<br />
minimum entry requirements for a programme may also<br />
be eligible to enrol in exceptional circumstances. Such<br />
decisions will be made by the Faculty Dean.<br />

programme <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
Note: There will be an extra charge <strong>of</strong> $136.90 (approx)<br />
for the Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (EAS) exam<br />
and practical assessment. $50 <strong>of</strong> which is an admin<br />
fee and not loanable.<br />
Career Opportunities<br />
Refrigeration engineers in areas such as building services<br />
and maintenance, food and wine processing, or in various<br />
domestic, commercial and industrial settings.<br />
