Do you think the trades might be a good fit for you, but are<br />
not sure which career path to take or don’t have the entry<br />
requirements for higher level courses? The Certificate in<br />
Introduction to <strong>Trades</strong> is the ideal taster programme and has<br />
courses in each <strong>of</strong> the trades – carpentry, electrical, plumbing<br />
and vehicle technology. You’ll be specifically prepared for<br />
entry into certificate-level trades programmes. The courses<br />
are structured to develop your learning style, and literacy and<br />
numeracy skills.<br />
On graduating you’ll have a good idea <strong>of</strong> what each trade is<br />
about and have a wide range <strong>of</strong> choices for further training<br />
in automotive, carpentry, fabrication, mechanical or electrical<br />
engineering, or plumbing and gasfitting.<br />
Or if you want further training you can staircase into higher<br />
level certificates.<br />

Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Level 3).<br />

Further study in your preferred trade at Level 3.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:<br />
• Be physically capable <strong>of</strong> completing the practical<br />
aspects <strong>of</strong> the programme and<br />
• Have English language competence to undertake this<br />
programme, which is taught and assessed in English.<br />
Any applicant whose first language is not English may<br />
be required to provide evidence <strong>of</strong> an overall IELTS<br />
(Academic) band score <strong>of</strong> 5.5 (with no band less than 5.0),<br />
or equivalent.<br />
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following<br />
attributes:<br />
• strong motivation to work in the trades<br />
• the ability to work in a team<br />
• the ability to communicate in groups and one-on-one<br />
• a mature approach to study<br />
• a mature attitude to health and safety in the<br />
workplace.<br />
Applicants will be accepted in order <strong>of</strong> application.<br />
Students who have attained the age <strong>of</strong> 20 years and do<br />
not hold the minimum entry requirements for a programme<br />
will be eligible to be enrolled as a student where their<br />
previous educational, work or life experience indicates<br />
they have a reasonable likelihood <strong>of</strong> success. Students<br />
who have not attained the age <strong>of</strong> 20 years and do not<br />
hold the required minimum entry requirements for a<br />
programme may also be eligible to enrol in exceptional<br />
circumstances. Such decisions will be made by the<br />
Faculty Dean.<br />
