Dj Transse Ex-p-RE:-N*s brings us
the experience of trance
Dj Transse Ex-p-RE:-N*s is the
biggest thing to happen to
MP3.com since
Trance[]Control.
Citing Aura — the
source of trance,
and Trance Jax as influences,
Dj Transse
Ex-p-RE:-N*s blends floor-thrillah
beats with psychedelic journey-trance
melodies. “I just want
people to dance,” says Alex Peters,
the brains behind the Dj
Transse Ex-p-RE:-N*s project.
“My parents don’t really like my
music, and my friends don’t understand
trance, but that hasn’t
stopped me.” In fact, nothing
seems to be able to stop Dj
Transse Ex-p-RE:-N*s. On his very
first day on MP3.com, his site received
a whopping 20 hits. Alex
attributed this to his ambitious
marketing strategy. “The day before
my site went up, I put posters
up around my high school that
said: ‘Who is Dj Transse Ex-p-RE:-
N*s? www.mp3.com/Dj_transse.’
I also told all my friends to go to
my site.”
Alex’s latest track “Astral Sky
Energy (Extended Mega Starlight
Trance mix)” has been climbing
the charts at a breakneck pace.
“Yesterday it was number 23,743
on the charts. Today
it’s number 14,297.
That’s a 9,446 jump
in one day. At this
rate I’ll be number
one in two more
days!” Alex attributes the popularity
of “Astral Sky Energy” to its
innovative structuring. “I’ve really
taken trance to a new level.
Trance is all about reaching a climax,
usually with the help of a
snare build. Well, it’s a sevenminute
track and there are 53
snare builds. You do the math,”
he gloats. Admittedly, the next
day, “Astral Sky Energy (Extended
Mega Starlight Trance mix)”
dipped to 59,7011 on the charts,
but Alex is confident it will
bounce back.
Foolishly, I asked Dj Transse
Ex-p-RE:-N*s if he had ever spun
at any clubs before. “Um, well,
I’m not really a Dj in the traditional
sense. I don’t spin records
or anything. I’m more of a producer.”
After setting an ignoramus
like me straight, I asked
what kinds of equipment he uses
to produce his chunky beats.
“Well, I’ve got a bunch of shareware
programs I found off the
Net. Mostly samplers and things
like that. Like, I can take any
kind of sound I find on sample
sites and loop it over and over,
and then layer the loops. It’s very
complicated,” says Alex. And it
certainly was. Alex tried to give
me a quick run through of Ejay,
but I had to say “no thanks mr.
producer! Leave that to the professionals!”
Dj Transse Ex-p-RE:-N*s is currently
working on a new concept
piece called “Anomalous Energy
Radar Transformation (Elaborate
Phattness Moonbeam mix).”
Alex reveals “the concept is I
start the track off with a phat
bass that sounds like it’s in 4/4
time, but when the drums come
in, it turns out the bass is in 3/4
time. It’s really mind-blowing.” I
think it’s clear, we can expect
great things from Dj Transse Exp-RE:-N*s.
