CREATIVE pupils of St
Mungo’s Primary in
Townhead celebrated the
installation of Archbishop
Philip Tartaglia with a
colourful display of episcopal
head gear.
After learning about the role
of the Archbishop, the P4
pupils were inspired to create
their own mitres.
And when placed on their
heads, they transformed the
classroom into a sea of bright
craftwork.

Meanwhile, Archbishop
Tartaglia has highlighted
the important role that
schools play in the faith formation
of children and
young people.
Recalling his own primary
schooldays at St Thomas’,
Riddrie, from 1956-63, he
rhymed off his teachers:
“There was Miss Cairns, Mrs
Cairns and another Mrs
Cairns, as well as a Miss
Cairney who became a Mrs
Hill. There was also Miss
Walsh, Miss McConnell, Miss
Brennan and Miss Keatings –
and the fact I still remember
them shows the influence they

By getting a game for the
school football team, St
Thomas also played a critical
role in establishing
Archbishop Tartaglia’s love
for football.
He added: “As a priest I
have always loved going into
the schools to get to know the
children and encourage the
teachers.
“I believe that support for
our schools is a key part of my
ministry as a bishop.”
