INTL 610 Area Study (3)<br />

This course offers a field study of the geography,<br />

demography, and social, cultural, and<br />

or country. An appreciation of the political<br />

significance of that area on the international<br />

scene is emphasized.<br />

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />

INTL 600 Independent Study<br />

and Research I (3)<br />

The purpose of this course is to enable the<br />

student to focus on global or specialized<br />

issues within International Studies. Each<br />

course is individualized under the guidance<br />

of a supervisor who helps the student<br />

to pursue his or her own interests and to<br />

expand into areas not otherwise covered by<br />

any other course in the <strong>University</strong>. Along<br />

with the content of the course, it offers an<br />

opportunity to become proficient in one<br />

or more methods of research in the field of<br />

international study.<br />

INTL 601 Independent Study<br />

and Research II (3)<br />

The purpose of this course is to enable the<br />

INTL 603 Science, Society<br />

and Civilization (3)<br />

This seminar emphasizes the interrelationships<br />

of emerging developments in science<br />

and social science and the impact of this<br />

new knowledge on American society. Topics<br />

such as automation and the individual,<br />

public health, space technology, reproduction<br />

and heredity, and food resources and<br />

the population explosion illustrate the<br />

content of the seminar.<br />

INTL 612 Field Study in<br />

European Civilization (6)<br />

This course offers a field study of European<br />

countries to give the student special insight<br />

into the civilization and cultures of selected<br />

countries through lectures by European<br />

and American professors and observation of<br />

European institutions at work.<br />

INTL 614 Field Study<br />

in World Civilization (6)<br />

This course exposes the student to the<br />

understanding and importance of human<br />

behavior in various civilizations around the<br />

world. Students study the total behaviorpatterns<br />

of cultures through first-hand experience<br />

and observation on location.<br />

INTL 691 Middle East Institute I (3)<br />

Middle East Institute I is an analytical study<br />

of the impact of social, economic, and<br />

political factors on human relations in the<br />

Middle East. The institutions of the Middle<br />

East-the family, school, government, and<br />

religious institutions are studied in detail.<br />

INTL 692 Middle East Institute II (3)<br />

This course offers a field study conducted<br />

in the Middle East to provide students an<br />

understand the historic, sociological, and<br />

anthropological context. Emphasis is placed<br />

on social, economic, and cultural problems<br />

which have bearing on politics and<br />

diplomacy.<br />

INTD 697 Caribbean Science Tour (3)<br />

This course offers a “science tour” of the<br />

Caribbean. The trip is especially designed<br />

for in-service teachers, to increase their<br />

knowledge of tropical ecology and geology.<br />

(Prerequisite: One semester college biology<br />

or geology)
