JUMP Report IAESTE Training and Motivation Seminar 29 September - 3 October 2004, Ghent, Belgium The 10th IAESTE Training and Motivation Seminar JUMP 2004 took place in Ghent, Belgium. Almost two years ago, IAESTE Belgium and LC Ghent accepted the challenge to organise the 10th JUMP Seminar. 60 delegates from 16 different IAESTE countries followed the slogan “Join Us to Motivate People”. The participants were many new members from all over Europe. Overseas was represented by Ecuador and USA. The participants were able to choose from four different workgroups: Internal Structure of IAESTE, Summer Reception/Marketing Students, Marketing Companies and LC Management and Marketing. The goal was the international exchange of experience and the training of new members. The workgroups were moderated by experienced IAESTE members: Sarah Prang (Denmark), Ignasi Mas Lopez (Spain), Lauren Alexander (USA), Mario Kauzlaric (Croatia), Peter Merrild (Denmark) and Uroš Kovšca (Slovenia). The organising team around Jochen De Grave set up a great event full of success. The reports of the workgroups and links to pictures can be found at the JUMP website http:// www.iaeste.org/jump. The participants were able to enjoy a rich programme. Highlights were the visit to the Sidmar plant in Ghent, the city walk in Bruges and the motivation speech from Marcus Orlovski. The 10th anniversary gala dinner was held in a nice location outside Ghent. Pictures from the former JUMP seminars were shown in a slide show. During a special session the development potential of JUMP was discussed by some senior members. Due to the fact that many very new members joined the seminar, a modified form of JUMP was discussed: The participants should all join different “lessons” on specific IAESTE topics in order to bring them to a common level of knowledge. Afterwards there is room to join the already known working groups. If “lesson”-leaders can be found this new model will be tested at the next JUMP seminar. The next JUMP seminar takes place in Osijek, Croatia from 28 September to 2 October 2005. Keep on JUMPing and “Join Us to Motivate People”! Perspectives The Employer IAESTE and Infineon Partnership of Values Infineon Technologies is the 4th largest global semiconductor Company, with more than 36,000 employees around the world. Approximately 7,300 engineers in over 40 international development centres work together to generate innovative solutions for our customers. Only in March 2005 Infineon decided to set up a new development centre in Bucharest, Romania. These are pretty high standards for graduates to meet but fortunately organisations like IAESTE support students in reaching these targets. IAESTE’s mission “to enhance technical and professional development and to promote international understanding and goodwill amongst students” points in the same direction as Infineon’s intentions. The internships provided by IAESTE are an excellent opportunity for students to get international hands-on-experience and to broaden their minds. This mutual interest in the personal development of future leaders is the reason why Infineon supports IAESTE by providing internships for exchange students as well as sponsoring IAESTE International. We wish IAESTE and all persons involved as much success in the future as you have had in the past.
