National broadband network Subject of the project Accelerating the construction of broadband networks in underdeveloped regions, especially in rural areas, integrating them with the national backbone networks. Upgrading the existing fixed-line broadband network with fixed-line or wireless broadband networks where economical. Goals of the project The implementation of the programme will enable all end-users to access the internet via broadband connections, and result in a more balanced regional development of electronic communications networks and services. The target users are private end-users, public institutions and enterprises. By the end of 2010 each resident must be able to connect to the World Wide Web with a speed of at least 512 Kbit/s, with at least 90% of the population having an optional speed of 2 Mbit/s. The long-term goals are to give at least 90% of the population access to “triple play” services and a speed of at least 20 Mbit/s by 2015, and fibre-optical networks to the home by 2020. Slovenian Adriatic island Subject of the project Construction of a Slovenian island in the Adriatic Goals of the project The purpose of constructing an artificial island is to combine the benefits of resolving the problem of how to deposit gravel with the benefits of a new tourist attraction offering relaxation, entertainment and socialising.
