Presidency of the European Union, which Slovenia will take over in the first half of
2008, is a political as well as economic project. The multilateral agreements
adopted under the Slovenian presidency will have a significant impact on the
competitiveness of all European enterprises.
Together with Germany and Portugal, which will preside the EU in 2007, Slovenia
has already drafted a framework programme of priorities of the presidency.
Drafting such a programme in time is essential, as everypresiding country relies
heavily on projects launched by its predecessors in the planning of its presidency.
The national priorities defined by Slovenia which will be carried out under the
auspices of the Ministry of the Economy are: the common energy policy, the
Lisbon Strategy, competitiveness and the transfer of knowledge to the economy.
As part of efforts to improve competitiveness in 2007, special attention will be paid
to industrial policy.
Overall, 2007 will be dominated at the Ministry of the Economy by preparations for
2008. The Ministry will continue to strengthen EU activities this year, paying special
attention to the drafting of EU legislation related to the said priorities and the
relevant communication activities.
