development Youth Activity Area creates a buzz The new Youth Activity Area on Orchard Avenue is certainly creating a buzz around town, with hundreds of people using the space to skateboard, ride their bmx or scooter, or relax on the benches under the shady trees. New cameras have been installed to film tricks to playback on the big screen for special night time programs in conjunction with youth agencies. Please be safe when using the area and stay with the perimeters of the space. Is your business gold standard With a 10% increase in tourism in Armadale over the past 12 months, we are keen to highlight those businesses who have achieved gold standard ratings. Armadale has dozens of food outlets serving hundreds of residents, visitors and tourists everyday. We’re looking for the best of the best. The City of Armadale is introducing a trial award scheme to inform customers about food hygiene so that they can make informed choices as to where they may wish to eat out. There are currently 115 local food establishments eligible under the scheme and they will be assessed two to three times a year to evaluate their hygiene standards during routine inspections. Those businesses scoring highly will be rated as good, very good or excellent and will be presented with a certificate which can be displayed at their premises. community Mayor’s Message The recent National Rowing Championships at Champion Lakes was a spectacular event in our region, with thousands of competitors and spectators at Australia’s newest rowing facility and hundreds of local residents taking advantage of the free entry on the weekend. Minnawarra Festival colours the streets Thousands of people enjoyed this year’s Minnawarra Festival which was spread across the Armadale CBD. The Perth Tram proved to be a great hit, taking people round the sites and the camel rides were loved by young people. Jull St Mall was picture perfect with artists painting and local musicians made the front of the train station come alive. If you’re a community group, local band or artist and you’d like to get involved in the Festival next year, please email us on events@armadale.wa.gov.au In this issue of City Views we have started the process of community consultation. This is where we as Council engage with as many people as we can in the community to find out what you want for Armadale. What do you think the future Armadale needs and what is your vision for our district This is so important for us as a region and for us to get feedback from you, our residents. So please let us know what you think! If you’re a local food business we have launched the food hygiene awards scheme which sees the best of the best rewarded for their efforts and if you’re a budding young writer, the City’s Young Writers’ Awards will also soon be open.
