Young Writers’ Award
Are you a budding young writer The City of Armadale Young Writers’
Awards are coming up and there are two categories you can apply for:
General Creative Writing & Living in Armadale
And to help you get on your way, local author DJ Stutley will conduct
some free writing workshops at the Armadale Library for students in
the following year groups, on the dates listed below:
Free writing workshops – book your place now
Year 5 & 6 Saturday 19 May, 11am-12 noon
Years 9 & 10 Thursday 24 May, 5.30-6.30pm
Years 7 & 8 Saturday 26 May, 11am-12 noon
There will be free refreshments of pizza and soft drink available
after these sessions.
Entries for the Armadale Young Writers’ Awards open on Friday
1 June 2012 and close on Saturday 30 June 2012. More

Aboriginal Driver
Training Program
Are you 16 or over and don’t have your
learner’s permit Visit the Champion
Centre on any Thursday and sit the test.
The Champion Centre and Armadale’s
Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers are
providing opportunities for indigenous
people to get their learners permit.
Listen to an in depth talk about local road
rules and regulations watch a Hazard
Perception DVD, ask questions and clarify
concerns before you sit the test. Light
lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Do you have a stream on your
property
Any City of Armadale resident who has a
waterway flowing through their property
has the chance to participate in the
Streamcare program. Landowners can
receive technical advice regarding weed
control, herbicides, property planning and
revegetation, all specific to their property.
Owners may also be eligible for free native
plants to revegetate their waterway and
create a healthier environment.
The project has helped hundreds of
landholders care for their local riverside
environment. If you live in the City of
Armadale, have a waterway on your
property and would like to be involved in
this program, please contact the
Streamcare Promoter on 9399 0111.
Better Beginnings
Parent Workshop:
Parents working away (FIFO)
Friday 4 May, 10am – 11.30am
Seville Grove Library
Presented by Ngala, this session is aimed
at the parents of children aged 0-2 years
old, where one or both parent has a Fly in
Fly Out (FIFO) job. Discuss the issues and
practical ways to keep the family
connected during the time apart.
