Young Writers’ Award<br />
Are you a budding young writer The <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Armadale</strong> Young Writers’<br />
Awards are coming up and there are two categories you can apply for:<br />
General Creative Writing & Living in <strong>Armadale</strong><br />
And to help you get on your way, local author DJ Stutley will conduct<br />
some free writing workshops at the <strong>Armadale</strong> Library for students in<br />
the following year groups, on the dates listed below:<br />
Free writing workshops – book your place now<br />
Year 5 & 6 Saturday 19 May, 11am-12 noon<br />
Years 9 & 10 Thursday 24 May, 5.30-6.30pm<br />
Years 7 & 8 Saturday 26 May, 11am-12 noon<br />
There will be free refreshments <strong>of</strong> pizza and s<strong>of</strong>t drink available<br />
after these sessions.<br />
Entries for the <strong>Armadale</strong> Young Writers’ Awards open on Friday<br />
1 June <strong>2012</strong> and close on Saturday 30 June <strong>2012</strong>. More<br />

Aboriginal Driver<br />
Training Program<br />
Are you 16 or over and don’t have your<br />
learner’s permit Visit the Champion<br />
Centre on any Thursday and sit the test.<br />
The Champion Centre and <strong>Armadale</strong>’s<br />
Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers are<br />
providing opportunities for indigenous<br />
people to get their learners permit.<br />
Listen to an in depth talk about local road<br />
rules and regulations watch a Hazard<br />
Perception DVD, ask questions and clarify<br />
concerns before you sit the test. Light<br />
lunch and refreshments will be provided.<br />

Do you have a stream on your<br />
property<br />
Any <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Armadale</strong> resident who has a<br />
waterway flowing through their property<br />
has the chance to participate in the<br />
Streamcare program. Landowners can<br />
receive technical advice regarding weed<br />
control, herbicides, property planning and<br />
revegetation, all specific to their property.<br />
Owners may also be eligible for free native<br />
plants to revegetate their waterway and<br />
create a healthier environment.<br />
The project has helped hundreds <strong>of</strong><br />
landholders care for their local riverside<br />
environment. If you live in the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Armadale</strong>, have a waterway on your<br />
property and would like to be involved in<br />
this program, please contact the<br />

Presented by Ngala, this session is aimed<br />
at the parents <strong>of</strong> children aged 0-2 years<br />
old, where one or both parent has a Fly in<br />
Fly Out (FIFO) job. Discuss the issues and<br />
practical ways to keep the family<br />
connected during the time apart.<br />
