Bats in the belfry are bad but apparently a
vampire on the marquee can be a boxoffice
blessing.
Herman Hartman. manager of the Kings
Cove Theatre in Pittsburgh. Pa., sent an actor
dressed as Dracula to the top of his theatre's
marquee for the engagement of "Dracula."
One week before the movie opened,
Dracula roamed the downtown streets, passing
out leaflets announcing the opening date
and the theatre's address. On opening night, in
addition to the marquee mounted Dracula,
another Dracula amused patrons in the lobby
from his natural resting place—a coffin.
The successful promotion continued for
three weeks and even made the front page of a
local college newspaper. The promotion was
also featured in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
It's about time vampires stopped getting bad
press.
