Client expects to see a decision in mid April 2012 on its feedstock allocation for the project.
Client is still waiting for a decision from Saudi Aramco Total Refining & Petrochemical
Company (Satorp) on the feed stock allocation. If it goes ahead the plant will receive a
paraxylene feedstock allocation from Satorp, the Saudi joint venture with Frances Total.
US Nexant is carrying out feasibility study for the plant and is nearing completion. If
Qurain is appointed to develop the PET plant, it could appoint a project management
consultant (PMC) by middle of 2012, and will begin looking for technology partner before
launching the EPC tenders.
Updated On : February 2, 2012
It is understood that tendering and bidding process for the feasibility study and front-end
engineering and design (FEED) contract is expected to be launched in the first quarter of
2012. A project management consultant (PMC) is expected to be selected and announced in
the second quarter of 2012 (there will be no tendering and bidding process). Tendering and
bidding process for EPC contract is expected to commence soon after, with an award is
anticipated by end of the second quarter of 2012. Construction of plant is expected to
commence in the third quarter of 2012, while the project completion is anticipated in the first
quarter of 2015.
This project is in Saudi Arabia. The complex will receive paraxylene feedstock from a local
refinery, producing 1 million tonnes a year (t/y) of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), 800,000
t/y of PET as well as other downstream products. Some of the PTA will be offered to local
markets, while the majority will be converted to PET resin. This complex will support the
turnkey. It will involve investment of more that $100-million.
Updated On : January 10, 2012
It is understood that negotiations are ongoing between Tasnee and SAIC regarding the
development of this project. The tendering and bidding process for the FEED study is
expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2012, while the EPC contract is expected to be
awarded in the second quarter of 2012, with work expected to commence soon thereafter.
Commissioning of the plant is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2013 and the project is
expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2014.
Updated On : May 18, 2011
It is understood that a contract to carry out the front-end engineering and design (FEED) on
this scheme will be awarded by mid-July 2011. The plant is due to start operating in early
2014.
Project
This project will be located on a site next to the PetroRabigh complex in Rabigh. The scheme
is being implemented in 50:50 joint venture with Saudi Advanced Industries Company
(SAIC). The plant will use 100,000 t/y of propylene oxide from PetroRabigh in a deal agreed
this year. The production will be used to make polyurethane in cellular and non-cellular
applications. US-based Carpenter Company is providing the polyol manufacturing technology
Updated On : January 4, 2012
Client is still evaluating bids for the EPC contracts. Awards are expected to be made by the
end of January 2012. However, if the delay in announcing the winning bidders continues, it
is understood that allowing for initial engineering work may not actually start on-site until
January 2013.
Updated On : November 1, 2011
It is understood that bids have been submitted for the EPC packages on this scheme. Bidders
include Taiwan's CTCI; South Korea's Daelim Industrial, GS Engineering & Construction,
scheme. An award is expected in the first quarter of 2012.

Updated On : September 15, 2011
Client has extended the bid deadline for some of the EPC packages on this scheme. The
original deadline of October 01, 2011 has now been extended to October 19, 2011 for the
main process plant packages, as well as one of the utilities packages.
Updated On : July 3, 2011
Client has released tenders for the seven EPC packages on this project. The packages are:
- Ethylene cracker: De-bottlenecking
- Aromatics Complex
- Cumene, Phenol and Cyclohexanone
- Caprolactam and Nylon-6
- EVA/LDPE, EPR, TPO and PMMA
- MTBE/IB, MMA and Metathesis
- Acrylic Acid and SAP.
Pre-qualifiers for the EPC contracts include South Korea's Daelim Industrial, GS
Engineering & Construction, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Samsung
Engineering, SK Engineering & Construction; France's Technip; and Spain's Tecnicas
Reunidas. Both technical and commercial bids for the seven packages are due to be
submitted in October 2011. If the project does not reach financial close by then, work cannot
start on-site. Another solution could be that the contracts are awarded on an engineering
only basis, with the full award being made to the same contractor at a later date.
Updated On : April 3, 2011
Client is set to release seven construction contracts on this scheme. The seven packages
include five petrochemicals contracts, an ethylene cracker de-bottlenecking scheme and an
aromatics complex, which are as follows:
CP 1: Caprolactam and Nylon-6 plants with associated facilities
CP 2: Cumene, phenol and cyclohexanone
CP 3: Ethylene-vinyl acetate and low-density polyethylene.
CP 4: Methyl tertiary butyl ether.
CP 5: Acrylic acid and super-absorbent polymer.
RP 1: Ethylene cracker de-bottlenecking plant.
RP 2: Aromatics complex
UO1: Offsites & Utilities
UO2: Tank Farm
UO3: Common facilities.
Pre-qualified contractors will have until September 2011 to submit their proposals. The joint
venture partners will then make a decision regarding the winning bidders in January 2012.
All packages will be lump sum turnkey and completion of the project is expected in the first
quarter of 2015. Due to the technical nature of many of the packages, several international
engineering consultancies are currently in talks with EPC contractors about potential joint
bids.
Updated On : March 13, 2011
Client is currently in the process of pre-qualifying companies for the EPC contract. A tender

for the EPC packages is set to be released in the next three months. The exact scope of
expansion has not yet been released, so it is still unclear how many packages will be
tendered for the project. Due to the technical nature of this scheme, it is believed that
consortiums will be formed between EPC contractors and engineering companies. Japan's
JGC Corporation is carrying out the FEED package.
Updated On : June 1, 2010
The feasibility study is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2010. Invitation to
bid (ITB) for the main contract is expected to be issued in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Submission of bids for the main contract is expected by March 2011. An award is
anticipated in June 2011.
Updated On : February 18, 2010
UK's HSBC and Japan's Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation have been appointed as
the financial advisers on this scheme. US' KBR is already carrying out a feasibility study for
the project.
that the client has largely broken off talks with all the bidders other than Japan's JGC
Corporation. The successful contractor is required to complete the design work in third
quarter of 2010. The client will make a final investment decision on this project once they
have seen the design proposals and results of the feasibility study.
Updated On : April 25, 2009
The joint PMC and FEED contract is expected to be awarded in May 2009, while the
feasibility study is expected to be completed by 3rd quarter of 2010.
Updated On : April 9, 2009
