Are you a teen who loves to sing Our parish wants
to train new youth cantors for the 6:00PM Mass. You
can join a great team of musicians who share their
talents with the church to praise God in song. All you
need is a love of singing and a desire to serve your
information.
SPRING SCRIPTURE STUDY
The spring scripture study will begin
sometime near Lent (Lent begins March
9) and continue for approximately ten
weeks. This session, building on the Acts of the Apostles
from the Fall session, will be the letters of Paul.
What time and date works best for those who would like
to attend In the past we have met on Wednesdays from
7:00–8:30P.M.
If you would like to vote from a specific day and time, we
would like to hear from you. Options would be any week
night evening, or even a Saturday.
Please give Jerry or Jean Washko a call at 856-845-6944
or 856-304-0381 with your preference so we might pick a
convenient time for most.
UNITED WAY PARTICIPANTS
2011 House of Charity Appeal. Thank you.
STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
“He said to them, ‘Come after me, and I will
make you fishers of men.’” (Matthew 4:19)
In our crazy, materialist world we can get caught
up in chasing after many wants and ambitions
forgetting our call to Stewardship. Yet, with three
simple words, Jesus tells us clearly that the only one we
should be following after is Him. “Come after me,” is not
just an invitation that
Jesus extended to the first apostles. It is an invitation that
He extends to each of us every day of our lives.
SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS
Thank you for your continued financial support to your
parish. Please remember to make your contributions
payable to Holy Angels Parish.
“We pray that, like the Apostles,
we may hear Our Lord’s invitation, “Come after me,”
and respond by participating more fully
in our call to Stewardship.”
HELP FOR THOSE IN NEED
Any parishioner who knows of a family or
individual who is in need of assistance, financial
or otherwise, please remember to call the
rectory and give their name and address.
REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S GOSPEL
Once again the gospel focuses on Jesus as
the Promised One of the Old Testament.
Jesus began his preaching in Galilee and is
identified by Matthew as "the great light"
foretold by Isaiah. Jesus' first message to God's people is
a powerful one. He says that we should reform our lives,
or repent, for "the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
"To repent" means that we take a complete change of
direction in our lives. Jesus knew what repentance, or
change of direction, meant, because he had just made a
big change in his own life. After John was put in jail, he
knew that preparing God's people for the kingdom was
now totally up to him. So he chose a place to live
(Capernaum-by-the-sea) and "began to proclaim." Jesus
made a new beginning.
Chaim Potok, a Jewish novelist, once began one of his
novels with the statement, "Beginnings are hard." To
repent means to begin again. When have you made a
new beginning How can you make a new beginning
today in some area of your life
A GREAT LIGHT
Most of us know how it feels to live in
the "land of gloom" for a few hours or
days or even longer. The people in the
region around Galilee were overcome
by gloom when their enemy, the
Assyrians, conquered them. But Isaiah promises that
God's power is greater than the powers of darkness. "A
great light" will lead them into "abundant joy."
Jesus is "the great light" who leads us out of the land of
gloom. By his death and resurrection, he has assured us
that darkness can never have the last say.
