Persons taking fish, whether recreationally or commercially,<br />
and persons involved in the fish industry,<br />
including wholesale/retail dealers and transporters,<br />
and vessels involved in the fish industry must<br />
be licensed.<br />
<strong>Commercial</strong> License Requirements<br />
Persons and vessels engaged in commercial fishing<br />
activities for which a license is required shall<br />
show an original, valid license upon demand to duly<br />
authorized agents of the Louisiana Department of<br />
Wildlife and Fisheries.<br />
The person in charge of the operation of each<br />
vessel engaged in commercial fishing activities must<br />
have in his possession, and in his name, a valid,<br />
original <strong>Commercial</strong> Fisherman's License. This person<br />
must also have in his possession a gear license<br />
indicating that the applicable gear fee has been paid,<br />
and if fishing south of the saltwater line (see page<br />
16), a valid and original vessel license. If harvesting<br />
oysters, mullet, mussels, spotted seatrout, shark or<br />
pompano, a commercial fisherman must also have in<br />
his possession, and in his name, the applicable<br />

<strong>Commercial</strong> Fisherman's License<br />
A commercial fisherman taking fish, including bait<br />
species, from state waters or possessing fish in the<br />
state must purchase and possess a commercial fisherman’s<br />
license.<br />
All persons on board a vessel with commercial rod<br />
and reel in use must possess a valid commercial fisherman’s<br />
license.<br />
A licensed commercial fisherman may only sell to<br />
a wholesale/retail dealer. Any commercial fisherman<br />
may transport his catch to licensed Louisiana wholesale/retail<br />
dealers located within the state. A commercial<br />
fisherman may sell his own catch instate to the<br />
consumer with a fresh products license.<br />
It is unlawful for the owner of a licensed commercial<br />
fishing vessel to permit any person not holding a<br />
valid, original commercial fisherman’s license to operate<br />
such licensed vessel while the vessel is engaged in<br />
commercial fishing or while in possession of fish for<br />
sale in the waters of the state. Violation subjects the<br />
vessel owner to revocation of license and seizure of<br />
the vessel and all fish and equipment aboard.<br />
Helpers or persons assisting or engaged in operations<br />
while aboard commercial fishing vessels need<br />
not have a commercial fisherman’s license in their
