The following is an unofficial compilation of marine laws and regulations for Alabama. The information<br />
is current as of September, 2011, but changes may occur at any time. For definitive enforcement<br />

Residency Requirements<br />
Annual Resident Freshwater or Saltwater <strong>Fishing</strong> License<br />
Any person who has been a bona fide resident of this state for a period of, not less than 90 days, next<br />
preceding (the application) and who is between the ages of 16 and 65.<br />
Use of <strong>Commercial</strong> <strong>Fishing</strong> Gear<br />
A resident of the state of Alabama, as applicable to this article, shall be a person who has resided<br />
continuously in this state for 12 months, next preceding the application for said license. Wholesale and<br />
retail licenses, as prescribed in this section, shall be issued in the same manner and under the same<br />
provisions as provided under other licenses.<br />
Proof of Residency<br />
A current valid Alabama’s driver’s license or two of the following:<br />

Certificate of employment if containing proof of permanent residency.<br />
Copy of home property tax.<br />
Copy of previous year’s tax return (mailing address only).<br />
Health insurance forms with address.<br />
The last three months of a utility bill with mailing address.<br />
Student identification plus copy of residence agreement or any other proof of residence listed.<br />
Military personnel with an out-of-state driver’s license must have a copy of order of assignment to<br />
Alabama for a minimum of 30 days, or have Alabama as home of record.<br />
Health insurance card with address.<br />
Telephone calling card with address.<br />
Copy of school registration for non-driving students.<br />
Voter registration.<br />
Other legal documents that may establish residency after approval by the conservation department.<br />
A non-driver identification card issued by the department of public safety is not acceptable proof of<br />
residency.<br />
SHRIMP<br />
All licenses expire September 30 of each year.<br />
<strong>Commercial</strong> License<br />
<strong>Commercial</strong> Shrimp Boats<br />
Under 30’ - $51.00<br />
30’- 45’ - $76.00<br />
Over 45’ - $101.00<br />
(Nonresidents pay the same fee as that charged<br />
Alabama residents in the applicant’s state of<br />
residence, except for the reciprocal state of<br />
Mississippi. Nonresident licenses are sold only<br />
by AMRD offices.)<br />
Recreational License<br />
Boat License - $16.00<br />
