Because lilies produce stem roots that act as anchors, they st<strong>and</strong> up taller <strong>and</strong> straighter if they are planted about<br />

8”-10” deep, giving those stem roots the area they need to secure <strong>and</strong> support the heavy, but beautiful flower heads.<br />

Lilies also prefer their leaves <strong>and</strong> flowers exposed to lots of sunshine but love their roots to be in cool soil...another<br />

reason to plant them deeply! Adding lower growing perennials around their ankles will help shade their roots from<br />

the hot summer sun.<br />
