RECREATION AND CULTURAL SERVICES PROGRAMS AND FACILITIES<br />

Goal 1:<br />

Provide high quality recreation <strong>and</strong> educational experiences for users of county park<br />

facilities <strong>and</strong> recreational areas.<br />

Objectives:<br />

A. Develop updated <strong>and</strong> new interpretive exhibits <strong>and</strong> displays with the expansion of the<br />

Fountain Creek Nature Center.<br />

B. Update interpretive exhibits <strong>and</strong> displays at the Bear Creek Nature Center.<br />

C. Exp<strong>and</strong> nature‐based programming <strong>and</strong> develop nature center facility in the northern area<br />

of the <strong>County</strong>.<br />

D. Maintain the diversity <strong>and</strong> quality of <strong>and</strong> participation in the award‐winning<br />

environmental education programs <strong>and</strong> day camps at <strong>County</strong> nature centers.<br />

E. Explore restoring hours of operation at <strong>County</strong> nature centers to accommodate citizens’<br />

interest in exp<strong>and</strong>ed programming.<br />

Goal 2:<br />

Exp<strong>and</strong> recreation <strong>and</strong> education opportunities <strong>and</strong> programs that build upon the area’s<br />

natural <strong>and</strong> cultural resources <strong>and</strong> agricultural heritage <strong>and</strong> promote conservation <strong>and</strong><br />

stewardship.<br />

Objectives:<br />

A. Exp<strong>and</strong> interpretive programming opportunities in northern <strong>and</strong> eastern <strong>El</strong> <strong>Paso</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />

B. Exp<strong>and</strong> outdoor recreation opportunities at Bear Creek <strong>and</strong> Fountain Creek Nature<br />

Centers.<br />

C. Provide educational offerings regarding fire’s role in the ecosystem.<br />

D. Combine interpretive naturalist services with shelter rentals as optional fee for service.<br />

E. Leverage the <strong>County</strong> Fair <strong>and</strong> Events Center as a regional events center <strong>and</strong> community<br />

center.<br />

F. Partner with non‐profit organizations in the development of new event opportunities,<br />

such as an annual heritage festival to celebrate the regions diverse cultural heritage.<br />

Goal 3:<br />

Exp<strong>and</strong> partnering <strong>and</strong> collaboration as a programming strategy<br />

Objectives:<br />

A. Continue programming partnerships.<br />

B. Pursue partnerships for regional interpretive services.<br />

C. Exp<strong>and</strong> general programming opportunities at regional parks by developing collaborative<br />

relationships with local service providers.<br />

D. Partner with local entities to provide social <strong>and</strong> recreational services for eastern <strong>El</strong> <strong>Paso</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong> residents at the <strong>County</strong> Fairgrounds <strong>and</strong> complete needed facility upgrades to<br />

accommodate the exp<strong>and</strong>ed services.<br />
