<strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Forestry</strong> Annual Report 2005-2006<br />

<strong>of</strong> climate change on forest dynamics, global markets for forest products, biotechnology, remote<br />

sensing, and sustainable forestry to name just a few. Some <strong>of</strong> the international projects that are<br />

underway include the International Forest Engineering Institute, Strengthening Natural Resource<br />

Education and Research in Ethiopia, Ecology <strong>of</strong> Exotic Pine plantations in Patagonia, and Wood<br />

Processing Education and Training in Mexico. Currently, CoF staff are developing a collaborative<br />

project on natural product research with the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Botswana.<br />

International Visitor Meetings, Tours, and Seminars<br />

The CoF receives many international visitors from universities, organizations, industry, and nongovernmental<br />

organizations around the world. The International Program staff provide visitors<br />

with information about the <strong>College</strong>’s teaching, research, and outreach programs and conducts<br />

tours <strong>of</strong> CoF teaching and research facilities, including the H. J. Andrews and McDonald-Dunn<br />

Forest. Over a dozen international visitors gave seminars in the CoF last year to share their research<br />

and culture with the students, faculty, and staff.<br />

International <strong>Forestry</strong> Student Association (IFSA-OSU)<br />

In October 2005, the International Programs sponsored establishment <strong>of</strong> a local chapter <strong>of</strong> the<br />

International <strong>Forestry</strong> Students Association, currently the only active chapter in the US. Objectives<br />

<strong>of</strong> IFSA are to enrich the formal education <strong>of</strong> forestry students through extracurricular<br />

activities that <strong>of</strong>fer a more global perspective on forest policy and management issues. IFSA<br />

hosted two International Luncheons and six seminars by <strong>College</strong> students and faculty about their<br />

international research, internship, and study abroad experiences.<br />

International C<strong>of</strong>fees<br />

The International Programs hosted eight c<strong>of</strong>fees, providing a collegial atmosphere for all members<br />

<strong>of</strong> the CoF and the OSU Office <strong>of</strong> International Education and Outreach to come together<br />

and learn about each other’s international work. New international faculty, students, and guests<br />

are introduced, and a featured faculty member shares his or her international research and development<br />

projects.<br />

International Newsletter<br />

The CoF International Programs <strong>of</strong>fice periodically distributes a newsletter to faculty, students,<br />

and staff to provide an update on opportunities and communicate about international activities<br />

undertaken by members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

<strong>College</strong> Forests (Dave Lysne, Director)<br />

The OSU <strong>College</strong> Forests are living laboratories where active forest management practices provide<br />

teaching, research, and demonstration opportunities for <strong>College</strong> faculty and students and<br />
