students at the secondary school<br />
level, beginning in 2004.<br />
• Photovoltaics—The New York State<br />
Energy Research and Development<br />
Authority awarded <strong>Delhi</strong> a $143,500<br />
grant to fund a certified training<br />
program for installers of solarelectric<br />
energy.<br />
• O’Connor Foundation—Awarded<br />
nearly $150,000 to support student<br />
scholarships, the O’Connor Center for<br />
Community Service, and development<br />
of the Olive B. Price Reading Room for<br />
Nursing and Allied Health.<br />
• Senator John Bonacic—Awarded<br />
grants totaling $120,000 to fund new<br />
and replacement equipment for the<br />
Automotive Technology, Computer-<br />
Aided Drafting and Design, Electrical,<br />
Hospitality, Mathematics, Refrigeration<br />
and Air Conditioning, Welding, and<br />
Veterinary Science Technology<br />
programs.<br />
• Corporate Services—Secured training<br />
grants of $265,000 from the New York<br />
State Civil Service Association and<br />
$57,000 from the New York State<br />
Department of Environmental<br />
Conservation.<br />
Conserving Resources<br />
that are available is equally important.<br />
The college has undertaken several major<br />
initiatives with that goal in mind, and<br />
the projected savings those efforts will<br />
generate is impressive.<br />
• Energy Conservation—Energy systems<br />
in three major campus buildings were<br />
replaced and new control systems<br />
were added in residence halls—moves<br />
that will produce annual savings of<br />
more than $400,000.<br />
• Summer Programs—Summer school<br />
has moved to the World Wide Web<br />
and a <strong>Delhi</strong> education is reaching new<br />
audiences thanks to the Internet. Five<br />
courses were offered last summer and<br />
the response was so strong that<br />
officials are already looking to expand<br />
options next year.<br />
Generating additional funds is one way<br />
for <strong>SUNY</strong> <strong>Delhi</strong> to provide students with<br />
a level of excellence that is truly unique.<br />
Becoming more efficient and making<br />
maximum use of the precious resources<br />
Plant Utilities Manager Clyde Bussy drives one of<br />
four GEM (Global Electric Motor) cars that were<br />
donated by DaimlerChrysler through a program<br />
initiated by the New York State Power Authority<br />
(NYSPA). In addition, electric cars on loan from<br />
General Motors helped replace the college’s<br />
aging fleet.<br />
