Professional Development Sessions MORNING SESSIONS: 9:00AM-12:00PM PDS Session A: Passport to ResNet (Singer 351) Are you new to the ResNet Symposium or just wann more info on this year's program and highlights This PDS session is for you. Led by Lowell Furman and the Theme Guides from the Program Committee this session will explain each theme and highlight topics of interest in each theme. Perfect for a newcomer or a not so newcomer looking for a heads up on the conference sessions. PDS Session B: Team Builders and Ice Breakers (Singer 361) Do your RCCs snore during training Do you worry that the glazed over look means that the dry information we have to cover is putting your workers to sleep Does that new RCC over in the corner all by herself concern you Then this class is for you! This session will focus on proven team building and icebreaker activities you can take back with you to liven up your training; wake up your team and help build solid working relationships! Please dress comfortably and bring your sense of humour! PDS Session C: You Might As Well Be Happy (Singer 151) Ellen B. Gélinas, humorist, educator, and counselor, presents a lively and interactive look at the many ways we can increase our laughter quotient. You are respectfully invited to learn how to overcome some of your own roadblocks to a balanced and fun-filled life. You just might laugh at your own foibles, practice the power of “NO”, argue with the all too serious rules we hang on to. And you could discover a short-cut to using“appropriate” humour and understanding our differences. Hopefully, you will dare to design a bodacious “TO DO” list and leave with a smile on your face and a plan in your heart. PDS Session D: DISC Profiles (Singer 161) In a recent survey of 1000 human resource professionals, the ability to communicate and deal effectively with other people was rated as the number one skill looked for in the hiring process. It was rated above technical skills, work experience and other educational backgrounds. This workshop is a powerful training event that is guaranteed to improve personal and work communications. The skill of understanding people will increase business and personal communications, improve interpersonal relationships and create an appreciation of the diversity of individual types. Each participant will learn how to work with people of different styles to insure positive outcomes. AFTERNOON SESSIONS: 1:00PM-4:00PM PDS Session E: Giving Effective Presentations (Tilley 205) Terry has been a Certified Trainer within the Junior Chamber organization for the past 5 years. He has delivered training to young professionals ranging from Non-profit Organization Management to Effective Speaking and Communicating. Delivering effective presentations can often be a difficult task, especially for those of us within the IT Industry. Terry will present some useful information to not only help you develop effective visual aides, but also help you convey the information to your audience, make the delivery easier, and leave a positive lasting impression. PDS Session F: Campus Safety and Security in a Cyber World (Singer 361) This session will be delivered in two parts. Part A: Cyber Threats on Campus The Internet has provided a powerful set of innovative tools and services that have transformed many aspects of early 21st century life. This is particularly true in higher education but we must be aware that every new application of technology (social networking for example) comes with a dark side.
