10 T W I L I G H T CRICKET REPORT ON THE FIRST ROUND This was not for the purists. However, even the purisys were forsaking their seats and 'tinnies' during the last few overs of this game. Like most one day limited over games this one could have gone either way right up to the last ball. It does not matter what the state of the pitch was. The done thing in this sort of game is to put the opposition in if you win the toss, and Brian Kensey having called correctly did just that. Queanbeyan openers gave their side a fair start but the WCCC bowlers kept the early run rate down. All the bowlers, particularly the Overland brothers, stuck to their task and bowled accurately. The middle order batsmen improved the run rate with some lusty hitting and cheeky running. Chris Body put an end to that by running out their highest scorer. Chris picked up the ball from near the boundary thundered in to Paul Duffus who whipped the bails with the batsman a yard out of his crease. When their twenty overs were up, Queanbeyan had made only 113 runs- a rate of 5.65 runs per over. Kensey and Duff us started well but soon . Weston Creek were in trouble when Duffus was run out.Greg Irvine joined Kensey and put on 50 odd for the second wicket. Just when things were looking good Irvine was run out for 29. Richard Drew came to the wicket when thinas were not going well. With the score at 72 he lost his captain who was on 37. The only excitement at this time was coming from a small "unruly crowd on the Hill". With the score in the ninties Drew had three partners all went to the wicket with a mighty lot of advice from the 'Hill'. All returned within minutes- all run out.With 20 runs needed Chris Body joined Drew, and the game picked up new life. One by one they crept up, but then Drew was clean bowled going for a drive. 8 balls left and 9 to get with 3 wickets standing. A four off the first ball relieved the pressure a bit. 3 wickets and seven balls to
get 5 runs. Chris got a single. Home 'hiintes" tnoughz they could hear Neil's heart beat as he scrambled home to get a single off the next ball. Body got the required 3 runs off the next ball and WCCC won through to the Semifinals. Brian Kensey Won the 'Man of the Match" award. 11 HOLDER PHARMACY John Gregan.
