GREENS TRIUMPH IN ONE-DAY DERBY GAMES
The last game of round one of the competition Greens
outclass the hopeless Reds for a decisive outright win.
Unfortunately Greens just failed to make the top half of
the competition and so will join the Reds in Division 2
for the remainder of the season.
Reds lost the toss yet again and quickly succumbed to
the pace attack of Greens, reaching ameagre 26. Mark Feeley
took 7 for 8 in 8 overs to demoralise the Reds batsmen
.
Greens easily outscored the Reds total, with a" fine
unbeaten 39 by Andrew Newman being the highlight. Rapid
scores of 18(Paul McLean) and 17(Bruce Russell) helped
boost the total to 8/110 dec. In their second innings
ehe Greens fared little better, reaching only 64, with
David Twiss top scoring with 19. Mark Feeley again was
chief destroyer, taking 4 for 19, well supported by Bob
Burton 3 for 6 and Bruce Russell 2 for 13.
A unique but a dubious batting performance was achieved
by Reds' captain Barney Devlin, who scored a "diamond"
pair - out first ball of each innings playing the
bowlers' favourite shot, a mistimed hook.
In the first game of the second round. Reds and the
Greens clashed again, with Greens wishing to remain the
clear leaders of Division 2.
Reds batted first and reached 72, with Bob Camaron,15
Craig Camaron 13, and Dave Flatt 12, leading the scoring.
Bob Burton with 5 for 14 was chief wicket taker. Greens
found little difficulty scoring the necessary runs for
the loss of only 5 wickets. _ _ , .
