EDU312 The Teaching of English as a Foreign<br />
Language [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a study of the methods and<br />
principles of teaching English as a foreign<br />
language, based on the findings of modern<br />
linguistics. The course deals with all the aspects<br />
of English teaching including basic language<br />
skills, sub skills, literature, and cultural<br />
orientation.<br />
Prerequisite: ENG213 Introduction to Language.<br />
EDU313 The Teaching of Science and<br />
Mathematics (Elementary) [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a study of the methods and<br />
materials used in science and mathematics, in<br />
elementary education.<br />

EDU314 The Teaching of Social Studies<br />
[3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is designed to equip students with<br />
the knowledge and the tools necessary to teach<br />
social studies across all grade levels. These<br />
competencies include planning, implementing,<br />
and evaluating the social studies curriculum, in<br />
addition to content and process skills. Special<br />
emphasis is given to values and character<br />
education, to reflect the objectives set forth by<br />
the new <strong>Lebanese</strong> curriculum.<br />
EDU315 The Teaching of Mathematics in<br />
Secondary Schools [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a study of the objectives, concepts,<br />
and classroom procedures, in secondary<br />
education, with emphasis on the selection,<br />
preparation, and use of teaching materials,<br />
including lesson plans and multimedia aids.<br />

EDU316 The Teaching of Science in<br />
Secondary Schools [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a study of the objectives,<br />
problems, and procedures, appropriate for the<br />
secondary school, with emphasis on preparing<br />
plans, the use of demonstrations, experiments,<br />
science curriculum projects, and reference<br />
materials.<br />
Prerequisites: EDU201 Fundamentals of<br />
Education, and Junior Standing.<br />
EDU319 Teaching Reading [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a study of the modern trends and<br />
issues in the teaching of reading as applied<br />
to English, with emphasis on practical work,<br />
to acquaint students with the processes of<br />
reading, and to improve their competency in<br />
these skills.<br />
EDU321 Children’s Literature [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is an exploration of the various<br />
types of children’s literature. It aims at<br />
developing critical analysis of the purposes,<br />
and the strategies for teaching, and the<br />
evaluation of literature for children.<br />
EDU331 Educational Technology [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a study of the interrelated uses<br />
of instructional materials and techniques in<br />
education at both the primary and secondary<br />
levels. The course is designed to prepare<br />
prospective teachers to serve society in the<br />
present technological era.<br />
EDU332 Educational Measurement<br />
[3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a critical examination of the<br />
basic principles and techniques of testing, and<br />
evaluation, in the total education process, and<br />
the use of modern software for basic statistical<br />
techniques needed for the analysis of tests.<br />
The focus is on the preparation, use, and<br />
analysis, of various school tests.<br />
EDU414 Methods and Materials in ECE<br />
[3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course involves an examination of the<br />
processes of planning appropriate learning<br />
environment, materials, and experiences that<br />
meet the developmental needs of students or<br />
groups of children in a classroom setting.<br />
EDU419 Internship [1-2, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a laboratory field experience<br />
course introducing concept problems and skills<br />
common to prospective teachers. Students<br />
spend 60 semester hours assisting the<br />
cooperating teacher in classroom activities,<br />
including supervising and monitoring class<br />
work, assisting in classroom management,<br />
substitute teaching, and preparing various<br />
educational materials in their area of<br />
emphasis.<br />
EDU420 Practice Teaching – Early Childhood<br />
Education [1-2, 3 cr.]<br />
This course is a field-based practicum, in<br />
which schools serve as laboratories for student<br />
teachers to gradually assume the obligations of<br />
the classroom teacher. Continuous evaluation is<br />
provided by the supervisor, and the cooperating<br />
teacher, to enhance the student teacher’s<br />
professional growth. It requires a minimum of<br />
40 hours of practice in the area of emphasis.<br />
