EDU875 Dyslexia and Reading Difficulties<br />
[3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This umbrella course focuses on reading<br />
difficulties, the main challenge that students<br />
with reading difficulties face, and sheds<br />
particular light on the most common of reading<br />
disorders: dyslexia. Students will also be<br />
required to work closely with dyslexic children,<br />
as part of course objectives, to gain more<br />
practical knowledge about dyslexia.<br />
EDU876 Teaching Students with LD in the<br />
Regular Classroom [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course investigates the foundations of<br />
effective teaching for students with learning<br />
difficulties. It proposes evidence-based<br />
learning-teaching approaches, and materials<br />
that are effective in educating learningdisabled,<br />
and mildly developmentally delayed<br />
students in the areas of reading, spelling,<br />
writing and mathematics.<br />
EDU877 Special Education Practicum<br />
[3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course deals with the applied aspect of<br />
the Special Education emphasis. Students<br />
will be asked to complete an internship in a<br />
school that caters to students with learning<br />
difficulties. Students will first learn the<br />
basics of mainstreaming students, planning<br />
individualized educational plans, modifying the<br />
curriculum, developing instructional materials,<br />
and teaching learning disabled, and delayed,<br />
students, one-on-one, and in groups, using a<br />
variety of tailor-made remedial strategies, to<br />
help them reach their instructional objectives.<br />
EDU883 Counseling Theories and Techniques<br />
[3-0, 3 cr.] *<br />
This course emphasizes counseling and<br />
consultation theories, and presents<br />
philosophical underpinnings of theories of<br />
personality, and those incorporated into<br />
counseling practice. It is an overview of the<br />
field, with emphasis on understanding the<br />
nature of counseling, and the counselor’s<br />
role in a school setting. Basics of interviewing<br />
skills, and counseling assessment techniques,<br />
are presented, as well counseling special<br />
needs students, and relevant ethical issues,<br />
are discussed.<br />

EDU885 Counseling Children and<br />
Adolescents in School Setting [3-0, 3 cr.] *<br />
This course covers the examination of models<br />
of therapeutic interventions from infancy to<br />
adolescence. Students become familiar with<br />
the ways of adapting appropriate interventions<br />
within the local culture e.g., play therapy and<br />
token economy with children, and the use<br />
of cognitive and emotional therapies with<br />
adolescents. In addition, this course will<br />
examine the basic developmental issues<br />
from infancy to adolescence that under-gird<br />
counseling practice. Typical psychosocial tasks<br />
are explored, with special consideration for<br />
counseling in a school context.<br />

EDU887 Counseling Practicum [3-0, 3 cr.] *<br />
This course is a semester of supervised<br />
counseling practice in a school setting,<br />
consistent with the student’s professional<br />
goals. This pre-professional experience<br />
allows students to implement counseling<br />
strategies while receiving structured and<br />
intensive feedback about their strengths, and<br />
weaknesses. Students will meet with <strong>LAU</strong><br />
Faculty for weekly seminar classes throughout<br />
the practicum.<br />

EDU888 Topics in Education [3-0, 3 cr.]<br />
This course deals with the current issues,<br />
and concerns, in education. It is alternatively<br />
taught by various Faculty to cover a wide range<br />
of specialty areas.<br />
EDU898 Project in Education [3 cr.]<br />
This course entails producing an original<br />
contribution in the students’ area of specialty,<br />
typically in the form of educational materials<br />
(educational kit, curriculum or sections of a<br />
curriculum, guidebooks, etc.) or a field study<br />
that is smaller in scale than a thesis.<br />
EDU899 Thesis in Education [6 cr.]<br />
This course entails producing an original<br />
contribution in the students’ specialty<br />
domain. It may be field research, qualitative or<br />
quantitative, descriptive or experimental, case<br />
study, document analysis, or action research.<br />
