In 2012, SNAICC published a hard-cover coffee
table book to celebrate the 25th anniversary of
National Aboriginal and Islander Children’s Day
(NAICD).
The full-colour 144-page book — titled Our
Children, Our Culture, Our Way — features
photographs and stories contributed by
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
from across Australia.
The book showcases positive images of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family
life, as well as the work of organisations across
Australia that support children and families.
“This wonderful book is a celebration of our
children and families,” SNAICC Chairperson
Dawn Wallam said.
“It pays tribute to all our parents, families and
organisations that are presented with the enormous
responsibility and challenges of raising
healthy, happy, resilient children
proud and strong in culture.
“The beautiful images in the book are an
affirmation that Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander child, family and cultural connections
are maintained and nurtured every day of the
year.
“The photos and stories also celebrate and
illustrate the rich diversity of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander cultures and practices
across Australia, as well as the diverse
settings in which we live.”
Early in 2012, SNAICC invited families and
organisations to contribute photos and stories
for the book. We received over 350 photos and
had the big job of compiling as many as we
could into the book.
SNAICC sends a warm thank-you to all the
families and organisations that contributed to
Our Children, Our Culture, Our Way. The book is
