1.1 The structure <strong>of</strong> this dissertation<br />
This dissertation consists <strong>of</strong> six chapters. The study starts with an introduction which<br />
outlines the purpose and importance <strong>of</strong> this research at an abstract level (Chapter 1).<br />
Chapter 2 discusses the IEEE 802.11 standards briefly from selected literatures as to<br />
understand the basis <strong>of</strong> this technology, the security measures that are available, the<br />
security issues that exist in current WLAN practices, and the researches that have been<br />
carried out in understanding the wireless security. Chapter 3 describes the research<br />
methodology adopted by this study, and Chapter 4 presents experimental results and<br />
analysis <strong>of</strong> the wireless LAN security status in Auckland CBD. In Chapter 5, the major<br />
findings from Chapter 4 are presented from the perspective <strong>of</strong> system deployment and<br />
recommendations are made for the improvement <strong>of</strong> security practices in businesses.<br />
The dissertation is summarized and concluded in Chapter 6.<br />
