STRAPLESS COCKTAIL FROCK THE
LIKES OF WHICH I’D NEVER SEEN
BEFORE.
Embellished with sequins and a white feathered hemline,
I couldn’t help but reach out to touch the beautiful fabric
that hung before me. Years later Sue Wong’s feminine,
dramatic designs still have the power to stop me in my tracks.
The LA-based designer has been a fixture on the fashion scene
since the launch of her eponymous label in 1984. From Prom
to Hollywood red carpet step-and-repeats, her glamorous
frocks are favored by women of all ages and are available on
websites and in stores all around the world.
Staying close to home, Sue Wong recently conquered Los
Angeles fashion week – Opening the Style Fashion Week with
a Fairies & Sirens-themed collection of dazzling and striking
dresses. After her resounding triumph, Fashion Xchange was
able to get some precious time with the jet-setting designer to
chat about her sartorial inspiration and endless love of fashion.
FX: Seeing your designs at the Style Fashion Week event
was such a highlight – What made you decide to join that
particular event during LA Fashion Week
SW: I have been hosting my own fashion shows for years. I
constantly reinvent myself and the chosen platform on which
I unveil my Collections. I wanted to open up Los Angeles Style
Fashion Week with something spectacular and operatic. My
designs are transformative and healing. They connect every
woman who wears a SUE WONG with the Feminine Divine.
When a woman wears a SUE WONG gown, she experiences the
living mantra that I embed in all my gowns: BEAUTY ~ MAGIC
~ TRANSFORMATION.
Unveiling my Collection and opening SFW afforded me the
opportunity to present this message to a larger and more
diversified demographic. I am all about seductive, poetic,
lush, romantic textures and contours – all of which contribute
towards the anthem of elevating a woman’s body and mind
to levels she never knew possible. I wanted to bring Beauty,
Magic and Transformation to SFW.
FX: What was the highlight of SFW for you this season
SW: It’s quite a daunting task opening up a formidable, much
anticipated fashion event such as SFW. The expectation was
challenging, but I gladly rose to the occasion. I welcome
challenges, they very much present opportunities for me to
live my quantum potential. My Spring 2015 Collection runway
