Real Property Assess in Sask<br />

An introduction to the assessment <strong>of</strong> real property in Saskatchewan:<br />

the assessment process, the assessment cycle, the functions <strong>of</strong> the<br />

assessor and appraiser, and issues in the governance <strong>of</strong> real property<br />

taxation. The course will provide an overview <strong>of</strong> the practice <strong>of</strong><br />

assessment and the role <strong>of</strong> the assessor as well as sketch the larger<br />

governmental and social context within which the assessment function<br />

occurs.<br />

Saulteaux Grammar and Orthography I<br />

This course is designed for students who seek grammatical and<br />

literary knowledge <strong>of</strong> Saulteaux. Emphasis is on writing in the<br />

standard Roman orthography and on grammatical structures.<br />

* Note: Students with standing in SAUL 100 will not receive credit for<br />

SAUL 104. *<br />

SAUL 105 3:3-0<br />

Saulteaux Grammar and Orthography II<br />

A continuation <strong>of</strong> SAUL 104. Further writing practice, grammar and an<br />

introduction to short compositions.<br />

Review <strong>of</strong> Introductory Saulteaux<br />

A review <strong>of</strong> basic Saulteaux oral expression and grammar for students<br />

with standing in high school Saulteaux or equivalent Saulteaux<br />

language experience.<br />

Saulteaux Immersion I<br />

This course will focus on listening and speaking skills by integrating<br />

linguistic functions with cultural knowledge. Students will acquire the<br />

level <strong>of</strong> competence needed to be functional within a relatively narrow<br />

range <strong>of</strong> familiar topic areas.<br />

* Note: Students may receive credit for either SAUL 150 or SAUL 100<br />

and/or SAUL 101. *<br />

SAUL 202 3:3-0<br />

Saulteaux Literature and Grammar<br />

This course is a continuation and integration <strong>of</strong> the Saulteaux oracy<br />

and literacy skills introduced at the 100-level. Intermediate<br />

grammatical structures are introduced through oral practice and the<br />

study <strong>of</strong> oral and written literature.<br />

*** Prerequisite: SAUL 101 or SAUL 105 ***<br />

SAUL 203 3:3-3<br />

Intermediate Saulteaux II<br />

A continuation <strong>of</strong> SAUL 202. Further oral and written practice in<br />

Saulteaux. This course completes preparation for all senior Saulteaux<br />

courses.<br />

SAUL 206 3:3-0<br />

Saulteaux Linguistics<br />

Linguistic concepts for the scientific analysis <strong>of</strong> Saulteaux, with<br />

comparison to the closely related Algonquian language Cree.<br />

Application to language teaching.<br />

*** Prerequisite: SAUL 101 or SAUL 105 or permission <strong>of</strong> the<br />

SAUL 215 3:3-3<br />

Interpretation I: Saulteaux-English<br />

An introductory comparison <strong>of</strong> Saulteaux and English stylistics with<br />

practical exercises in interpretation, primarily from Saulteaux to<br />

English.<br />

*** Prerequisite: SAUL 203. Fluency in Saulteaux is recommended.<br />

Saulteaux Transcription<br />

This course will reinforce the standard roman orthography for<br />

Saulteaux and present ample opportunity to increase one's ability at<br />

transcribing spoken Saulteaux from both oral and audio-taped<br />

sources.<br />

SAUL 250 6:9-3<br />

Saulteaux Immersion II<br />

This course will bring participants to an intermediate level <strong>of</strong><br />

pr<strong>of</strong>iciency. It will be complemented by examination and useage <strong>of</strong><br />

grammatical structures, cultural elements, and the study <strong>of</strong> oral and<br />

written literature.<br />

*** Prerequisites: SAUL 150 or SAUL 100 and SAUL 101.*** * Note:<br />

This course can be counted as an elective but cannot be used toward<br />

the main requirements <strong>of</strong> degree programs. * * Note: This course will<br />

also be available as a non-credit option for those outside the university<br />

Saulteaux Public Speaking I<br />

This course provides an opportunity for further listening and oral<br />

practice through group work, role play, debate and public address in<br />

Saulteaux.<br />

Expository Writing in Saulteaux<br />

Study and analysis <strong>of</strong> non-fiction literature in Saulteaux, such as<br />

biography, history, politics, news stories, narratives, and technical<br />

writing; practice in writing and revision.<br />

SAUL 310 3:3-3<br />

Saulteaux Phonology<br />

The study <strong>of</strong> the sound system and phonological processes <strong>of</strong><br />

Saulteaux and related dialects with reference to contemporary<br />

phonological theory. Application to Ojibway writing systems.<br />

*** Prerequisite: SAUL 206, or permission <strong>of</strong> Department Head ***<br />

SAUL 311 3:3-3<br />

Saulteaux Morphology<br />

The study <strong>of</strong> the internal structure <strong>of</strong> Saulteaux words. Morphological<br />

processes <strong>of</strong> Saulteaux will be examined with reference to<br />

contemporary linguistic theory.<br />

Interpretation II: English-Saulteaux<br />

A continuation <strong>of</strong> SAUL 215, with further practical exercises in<br />

interpretation, primarily from English to Saulteaux.<br />
