and escapes so wonderful as to stagLjer credibility<br />

were almost necessarily part and parcel <strong>of</strong> a<br />

calamity so prodigious. Stories <strong>of</strong> mishaps more<br />

or less grave were by no means a rarit\' on Saturday.<br />
