telephone pole, which was broken <strong>of</strong>f. He clasped a second telephone pole<br />

and it was carried awa\-. <strong>The</strong>n he mounted a log, and was carried over<br />

the woolen-mill dam. Farther on he was caught between two logs and severely<br />

squeezed. Extricating himself, he mounted one <strong>of</strong> the logs, floated to the<br />

stone bridge in <strong>Johnstown</strong> and back to the Presbyterian Church. <strong>The</strong>nce he<br />

made his way to Alma Hall and was saved.<br />

East Conemaugh and Franklin, separated by a narrow stream, were not<br />

divided in mutual sorrow.
