Mike Muscala had another big night with 25 points, 10 rebounds, seven
blocks and four assists, and brand new 1,000-point scorer Joe Willman made
some clutch plays down the stretch to lift Bucknell to a hard-fought 73-59
road win over Colgate. Bryson Johnson added 15 points, Cameron Ayers had
14 and Willman 10 for the Bison, who are off to their second-best 18-game
start in program history. The Bison improved to 7-3 on the road this season,
tying them for the most road wins in the country, and they defeated Colgate
for the seventh straight time. Bucknell was stellar defensively in the second
half, holding Colgate to 0-for-6 3-point shooting and 27 points in what was
a tight game throughout. The Bison forced 14 turnovers, had 10 steals and
blocked nine shots on the night. Murphy Burnatowski scored 17 points
to lead Colgate, while Damon Sherman-Newsome had 13 off the bench.

Bryson Johnson and Joe Willman tallied 16 points, Mike Muscala recorded
his 14th double-double of the season, and Bucknell hit free throws down
the stretch to beat Holy Cross 65-58 in a physical game at the Hart Center.
Cameron Ayers added 15 points for the Bison. Johnson hit 8 of 9 free throws
to help salt away a close game, and he went 2-for-2 from the 3-point arc to
tie Kevin Bettencourt’s program record for career treys with 294. In a game
that was slowed by 43 foul calls, Muscala and WIllman both had to work
around some foul trouble throughout the day. Willman still managed 16
points on 7-for-9 shooting to go with six rebounds. Muscala tallied 13 points,
11 rebounds and a pair of blocks for his 14th double-double of the year.

Mike Muscala posted 27 points and 15 rebounds, and Bucknell parlayed a
terrific defensive effort into a 66-51 win over Lafayette and a 3-0 start in the
Patriot League. Cameron Ayers scored 12 points and Joe Willman added
10 for the Bison. Seth Hinrichs scored 12 points and Dan Trist had 11 for
Lafayette. The Leopards are always one of the league’s most prolific 3-point
shooting teams, but Bucknell held them to just one trey all night in 13 attempts.
Lafayette shot a season-low 34.5 percent overall, and only once all
night did the Leopards string together back-to-back points.

Battered and bloodied, Mike Muscala still found a way to get it done. Muscala
rebounded his own miss and stuck it back in with eight-tenths of a second
remaining to give Bucknell a remarkable 56-55 victory over American. The
Bison scored the game’s final eight points after trailing 55-48 inside two
minutes to play, and they overcame some rare poor free-throw shooting
to improve to 18-4. Muscala, playing with a bandaged chin after taking
two separate elbows to the face, finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds, four
assists and three blocks. Cameron Ayers added 14 points for the Bison, who
managed an important road victory despite shooting 11-for-24 from the
free-throw line and 1-for-10 from 3-point range. But they got key stops
down the stretch and American kept them alive with two missed front ends
of 1-and-1s in the final 33 seconds.

In a game of wild momentum swings, it was Lehigh that made the final run
and the Mountain Hawks outlasted Bucknell 65-62 before 3,964 fans at Sojka
Pavilion. Both teams came in unbeaten in Patriot League play, but Lehigh
moved to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in the league, while the Bison fell to 16-4, 3-1,
despite 16 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots from Mike Muscala.
Joe Willman added 15 points and nine rebounds and freshman forward Dom
Hoffman had the best game of his young career with 10 points off the bench.
B.J. Bailey made all four of his 3-point attempts and scored a game-high 18
points, while Mackey McKnight had 17 points for the Mountain Hawks. The
biggest difference on the stat sheet came at the 3-point arc, where Lehigh
went 10-for-18 and Bucknell 2-for-14. The Bison held the Mountain Hawks to
11-for-41 shooting inside the arc and 35.6-percent shooting overall. But Lehigh,
which came into the game ranked second in the nation in team 3-point
percentage (.428), hit some critical long-range shots down the stretch.

Bryson Johnson needed only one 3-pointer to become Bucknell’s all-time
leader in made threes. He got the record-breaker out of the way on the
second possession and then added five more en route to a season-high 20
points, and Mike Muscala totaled 11 points and a career-high-tying 19 rebounds
in 25 minutes of action in Bucknell’s 69-54 victory over Navy. Johnson
opened the game’s scoring with a bomb from deep, giving him 295 career
3-pointers and moving him into first place on Bucknell’s all-time list. The
shot came 57 seconds into the contest, and the Bison led the rest of the way.
