Black Box XFP Modules
10 Gigabit modules for BLACK BOX ® Media Converters and Switches.
You can use the topology you need with
XFP slot modules. The modules are available
for both short-range (multimode) and longrange
(Single-mode).
These XFP modules are operable in Black
Box media converters and switches as well as
switches from Nortel and Extreme, but these
XFP modules are not compatible for use in
an HP ® , 3Com ® or Cisco switches.
For 10 Gigabit it is more important which
multimode fibre is used than with older
standards.
If you are looking for SFPs that are
compatible with switches from
other vendors like HP and Cisco
then contact our FREE Tech Support
SFP for all Black Box Switches and Media Converters
Order them, plug them in, then sit back and enjoy.
Small form-factor pluggables (SFPs)
enable you to quickly and easily add or
change fibre uplinks and downlinks on your
switches. And now you can save money by
buying your SFPs from Black Box!
Designs with SFP slots mean more value
and investment protection for you. You can
change topologies whenever needed — or
simply use the SFP modules wherever
needed.
These SFP modules fit into all Black Box
switches and media converters.
Unfortunately, these SFP modules are not
compatible with switches fom third-party
vendors like Hewlett Packard or Cisco.
Black Box Explains
10 Gigabit.
In the year 1830, "The Rocket" was the
fastest train, travelling between Liverpool
and Manchester at the speed of 47km/h.
At that time, people thought that nobody
would ever have the need to travel faster
than 50 km/h. In the year 1983 ,the official
IEEE standard for Ethernet running on
BNC/Coax was released. The speed was
10Mbps half-duplex. At that time nobody
was arguing about bandwidth as they
weren't transmitting music or video.
But technology always moves on. What
seemed impossible yesterday is normal
today. When sending music, video and
more across the network, you can never
have enough bandwidth.
The LBG6000 and LBG9000 Series
switches provide you with 10Gb Ethernet
technology. Black Box supports fibre optic
and copper interfaces that are available
and reliable. For copper, use the CX4
interface for connecting servers or for
interconnecting switches. Because the
distance is very limited, you should use
fibre optic cabling for your long-distance
connections.
You may find RJ-45 interfaces for 10Gb
equipment, but these require special
cabling and connectors. 10Gb on RJ-45
uses a line encoding scheme. You may also
find equipment with XENAPAK modules,
but these are already phased out.
Currently the XFP module type is the
standard for connecting 10Gb to fibre. The
maximum distance you can cover depends
on the fibre type installed. Getting into
10Gb technology begs the question, 'What
am I going to do' Normally you go for
new switches to have more backbone and
aggregation bandwidth. Installing a 10Gb
Network Interface Card into your file or
application server may also be necessary to
benefit from your investment.
For a complete enterprise system, you
may need (1) LBG9900AE as the core switch
with the required number of XFPs and
several LBG6550AE for the transmitters
and receivers.
