Parks Victoria Technical Series No. 83 Point Addis Subtidal Reef Monitoring 3.1.3 Common Algal Species In 2012, the cover of common kelp Ecklonia radiata recorded within the MPA was lower than that recorded in the previous survey of 2006, but within the range recorded in other prior surveys (Figure 3.3a). Ecklonia radiata cover at the reference sites has remained generally stable over time. The crayweed Phyllospora comosa was recorded within the MPA for the first time in 2012, albeit in very low abundance, through the introduction of new sites (Figure 3.3b). A minor and gradual increase in the cover of bushy tangle weed Acrocarpia paniculata was present at the reference sites from 2004 to 2012 (Figure 3.3c). Acrocarpia paniculata cover within the MPA has remained relatively stable over time. The cover of Caulerpa flexilis muelleri was variable within and outside the MPA (Figure 3.3d). Seirococcus axillaris cover increase within the MPA since 2006 and cover in 2012 was similar to that recorded at the reference sites (Figure 3.3e). The cover of Phacelocarpus peperocarpos, Haliptilon roseum and Cystophora moniliformis was generally low, with no substantive changes or trends over time recorded (Figure 3.7 e,f,g).
