Parks Victoria Technical Series No. 83 Point Addis Subtidal Reef Monitoring 3.3 Fishes 3.3.1 Fish Community Structure Abundant fish species at the Point Addis Marine National Park included the blue throat wrasse Notolabrus tetricus, herring cale Odax cyanomelas, scalyfin Parma victoriae and the horse shoe leatherjacket Meuschenia hippocrepis. Other species present included the purple wrasse Notolabrus fucicola and the magpie perch Cheilodactylus nigripes. Fish assemblages at the two sites with time series data in the MPA have varied over time while occupying the same general sector of the MDS (Figure 3.9a). The two newly established monitoring sites in the MPA fall within the same sector of the MDS. Fish assemblages at reference sites have varied within a similar range over time (Figure 3.9b). However, the Anglesea Reef site in 2012 diverged significantly from the previously recorded range (Figure 3.9b). This may be due in part to a high abundance of oldwife Enoplosus armatus recorded in 2012 compared to previous years. 3.3.2 Fish Species Richness and Diversity Total fish abundance inside the MPA was lower in 2012 than the previous survey in 2006, but within the range observed in other prior surveys (Figure 3.10). There have been no other substantive changes or trends in fish diversity indices. 42
