38 The organisation continues to set performance goals, targets and indicators to manage energy, water, materials and waste, and staff involvement in greening activities. Energy source A 20% Green Power product GreenEarth Wind (Origin Energy) meets all electrical energy needs of the office. Green Power is produced from renewable sources, benefiting the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Water consumption Water is restricted to use in the kitchen, toilets and building shower facilities. Water consumption is metered and displayed on the dashboard (hot and cold separately). Zero Waste SA adopted a target of a 15% reduction of mains water by 2012, starting from a baseline consumption of 23,830 litres (2008) or 1,222 litres per FTE. In 2010–11 the Zero Waste SA tenancy water consumption was 18,210 litres, a reduction of 24% from the 2008 baseline. Materials and waste management Zero Waste SA has the goal to demonstrate the zero waste ethos using lifecycle management techniques, that is, purchasing sustainably as well as managing waste. Data on materials consumption and disposal (paper recycling and food waste composted), is entered manually into the dashboard. Zero Waste SA will continue to work with other tenants and building management to expand systems to a wholeof-building arrangement where possible. Travel and fleet management Zero Waste SA’s travel profile is influenced by its size and location, with all staff and work operations located in Adelaide’s central business district. Some staff travel to regional areas and interstate. Zero Waste SA has two long-term vehicles: the Chief Executive’s contract car and a staff pool car, a Toyota Prius. Zero Waste SA has adopted a target of reducing carbon emissions by 60% by 2012, starting from a baseline of travel related emissions of 26.54 tonnes CO2e annually (1.36 tonnes per FTE). Travel information is entered manually into the electronic dashboard and carbon emissions calculated. It has procedures for recycling the following materials: > Shredded paper is collected by Shredlogix on an asneeds basis, and the paper recycled. In the reporting period, 5 x 240 litre bins of confidential paper have been recycled. > Used fluorescent tubes are collected and sent to CMA Ecocycle and Chemsal Resource Recovery where the tubes are crushed and sent to recover all metals, glass and mercury. > Food organics are managed through: > the operation of two worm farms; staff manage the castings and liquid outputs from the worm farm and monitor the amount of food diverted from landfill > a bench-top container which is collected as part of a whole-of-building recycling arrangement and sent for commercial composting. Individual workstations do not have waste bins. A few small bins are distributed throughout the office for the very small volume of residual waste. A comparison of 2010–11 travel related emissions against the baseline is provided below. Induction includes training in the office recycling systems and what is expected of staff members in greening of Zero Waste SA, in particular waste management.
